Just a thought, you should do pulls on the dyno right after the install, then again in a few hundred miles after it's given a chance to learn/adjust, just to see what, if anything, the difference is.

Agree, that would have provided the most information. I'll be interested to see the dyno results as well. I've always been skeptical of the manufacturer's HP claims on CAI install with no other mods. Note they always claim "Up to" xx HP, which means it could also be 0 or 1. Even if a CAI alone gives 10 HP I don't believe anyone's butt dyno is sensitive enough to feel it.

Edit: If the ambient air temp in the shop isn't within a few degrees for both runs the results will be pretty meaningless.

To the OP:
If you want to keep your stock tune, at least have the people at your shop record performance data during the dyno run (air fuel ratio is one of them).

A local shop installed long tube headers+high flow cats, then ran a test dyno run.
I gained 20 hp. My car was running too lean and the tuner changed various settings.
After a proper tune, I gained an additional 13 hp.
I realize my car, elevation, performance adders are all different.
My engine will last longer properly tuned. That day was "warranty destruction day".

Stock tune is staying put. That is the reason for going with mid length headers and high flow cats. The placement of the o2 sensor bung on the ARH units is equal to where it would be using the oe cast header and the first set of oe cats. The entire objective is to not eradicate my power train coverage.

I will have to ask Matt if it might cause a code doing pulls right after the header install. My preference is to follow Steve's suggestion which is basically that of aFe. Give the system a chance to learn the changes.

Forecast for our area is temps will remain static for the next week to 10 days. Low to mid 50's. 21st does their best to keep the shop interior naturally cool. Kracka will back me on this. They do a hell of a lot of dyno pulls and tunes in that shop.

Yah, too cold to spend much time in the garage right now. In addition to the ARHs, I also have a catch can, E85 conversion, Z06 grille, and competition seat conversion to install. It will be a fun time in the garage one it warms up some.

Never could figure that out. I grew up on the western slopes. We'd be skiing in shorts on Ajax in Aspen and Denver would be like an ice cube.

I occasionally get a check engine light with ARH mid length headers caused by inefficient cats. It's the P420 code. I look it up using HP tuners and clear it

Do you have the ARH high flow cats or are they from someone else ? Also, how recent is your header/cat install ?

Cats are from ARH. I installed the headers last spring. When I got the first CEL after only 150 miles, ARH sent replacement cats with O2 bung extensions. That seemed to work but occasionally the CEL still pops up. Usually after a restart 1 hour after a cool down and restart. I may go a few thousand miles between CEL.

So I don't have to bring my laptop every time I go on a long drive, I've order the new Kiwi 3 from PLX, a tiny wireless device that plugs into the OBDII port so I can monitor and reset any CEL code from my iPhone.

Interesting. Have you spoken to Steve or Nick in tech support at ARH about this issue ? They really need to know. I say this as they has assured both Matt at 21st Century and I that they had cured the cel issue.

Merry Christmas ........ You will be getting new cats per Nick Filippides. He was not aware of your issue till I appraised him of it today. Evidently you have the old style cats. Watch for a pm from him. Cut and paste of his email to me: Michael, I just had a chance to read Russ’ post. We will PM him and arrange sending him the 49 State cats we now offer. His system has the previous version. He will not have to deal with that any longer. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Well, Matt did the dyno pulls with the aFe on first thing this morning. I haven't seen the printout yet. I asked about doing pulls right after the header install. Total waste of time and money was his response. Because they have to pull the main power feed to do the header install it would make no sense he said, for the exact reason you mention. The entire system will now have to relearn everything. Damn good thing there's a deli just down the block. This is going to be a long day
