Default Balance across the power band - build next step

With an A&A S/C centrifugal blower and ARH long tube headers installed boost is only available in any meaningful amount above 3500. Meth kit will also go in shortly

What are my options to concurrently expand boost at lower RPM's..are there any quick wins that dont require a complete tear down of the motor to benefit from improved torque across the power band?

Best -
Scott

Yes Scott, centris build boost linearly, PD blowers have it on tap down low. The only thing you can do is go to a smaller pulley and a restrictor so you can shift the power curve down lower. If you're an auto, you could get a converter to get to the power band more quickly too.

The cheapest option is to pulley up so you get more boost down low and a restrictor plate to the intake filter box reduce boost at high rpm. The next option is to pulley up and change to a cam with a +32% fuel lobe.

I've got an M7....does the pulley change out result in spreading power down low in exchange for a decrease in high end boost or can I get a free lunch? What are the downsides of the pulley change out and installation of the restricter plate?

It's a free lunch and ECS does it on all their C7 kits. The downside is if your intake tube to the blower comes loose (for example if your hood duct contacts it when you close the hood) you will get too much boost and potentially fry a piston like what happened to me (video below). Therefore it is essential to beef up the inlet tube connections and have a boost gauge and preferrably a wide band AF gauge as well.

Buy an ECS kit? Joking aside, you can pulley down which spins the blower faster which means boost comes on quicker. In order to limit the boost you see at high RPM to a safe level (unless you upgrade motor/fuel) you can run a restictor, or wastegate.

Other options would be add cubic inches (stroker motor/etc) or a cam designed for low end. Both are not cheap options.

Nitrous works too.

Or downshifting. I never got wanting tons of power <3k. If you want to go fast, be in the correct gear.

How about a driver mod? Just downshift before flooring it.

Downshifting off the line isnt really an option

Or get a torque convertor.

Another forum member mentioned the Z06 fuel pump, when released along with the smaller pulley and no restrictor may also be an option (in lew of the modified cam lobe)...

That is a theory for now. No one knows if the z06 will have a bigger pump or not.

Is he sure they are changing the fuel pump? They may just change the fuel lobe on the cam for the Z06 as the cam is a different part anyway than what is on our cars.

Or since 650 crank is ~570rwhp, they may not do much at all since stock fuel system supports that. Or maybe they upsized the injectors slightly, or maybe like R97 said, cam is different. Who knows until it comes out and we have all the part numbers and parts side by side.

Pulley down with no restictor will add low, mid and high end. Sooner or later you have to worry about motor/etc if that is the option you go.

Go about this the smart way here. If you pulley down enough to make a lot more low end and put a restrictor plate on it your iat's will get up there big time, meth will help for sure but will still limit you to 600 rwhp +/- a little. Do a cam and pulley it down with meth and it'll be fast. /thread

No theory.... the Z06 has the same mechanical pump with a larger piston to supply more fuel as well as larger injectors.

Good to know. Sounds like that may be a way to get some more power without touching the cam. Hopefully it will get them to ~700rwhp.
