Theta...Thanks for this! Over the years I've found "Book" instructions often include steps that you can cleverly work around. Knowing also that some are reluctant to undo control arm mounts I tried without. Sure enough..Easy!
1) Car in the air, suspension at full droop
2) Support lower arm with a jack.
3) Remove the lower two shock bolts
4) proceed to the other side and also remove lower bolts
5) Let the jack down and the suspension will sag another 1/2 inch. Just enough to work the shocks out without touching the upper control arm mounts. Takes a little wiggling but easy
Hope this helps a few doing this!
Move lower shock forward and over the lower arm:
Twist and drop out toward the front.
1) Car in the air, suspension at full droop
2) Support lower arm with a jack.
3) Remove the lower two shock bolts
4) proceed to the other side and also remove lower bolts
5) Let the jack down and the suspension will sag another 1/2 inch. Just enough to work the shocks out without touching the upper control arm mounts. Takes a little wiggling but easy
