Default Ramps

What do you guys use for ramps in the garage to get under the front of the car. Everything I've tried are too steep.

Thanks

race ramps, raceramps.com

I use the 56" inch two piece, if your car is lowered may have to use the 67s.

Downside is they arent cheap but vendors have them on sale occasionally.

The 56" and 67" Race Ramp have exactly the same 10.8 degree constant slope. So the extra length of the 67" ramps does not help if your car is lowered. Think of the extra length being at the tall end of the ramps where it increases the height from 8" (for the 56" ramps) to 10".

There are several 2-stage incline ramps available that do work with lowered Corvettes.

You are correct, raceramps have the 'extenders' to give you a better angle, I just ASSumed the 67" were the same 8" height.

Either way the 56" race ramps worked for my old GS (barely) and the stock C7 has a ton of clearance.

I bought $49.95 set of ramps on ebay and later found same set at Walmart and built my own extenders out of plywood. Lightweight and a fraction of the cost of raceramps.

I drive a lowered C5, but the premise is the same...

I have Rhino ramps from AutoZone and drive up on 2x10s first to get the extra clearance I need

I have two sets of Rhino ramps that I never use anymore, that is after buying the race ramps. Expensive but you know where the money went every time you use them, they are nice.

Raceramps are awesome but expensive. On my last oil change I put one jack under each jack point, jack the car up, slid one ramp under each tire, and lowered the car onto the ramps. Done. Car is safe to crawl under. Fortunately I have large ARCAN jacks and it makes short work of it.

Those were the last ones I just bought yesterday. Was trying tot to use 2x10s. I had checked out race ramps... They look good but they are pricey.

You can probably buy a set of leave in jacking pucks, a couple inexpensive floor jacks and a pair of rhino ramps for about the same price as race ramps

I bought the race ramps years ago and they were a little cheaper, I have used them on all kinds of cars so they have well paid for themselves. Main reason I like them over the rhino ramps is they dont slide when pulling up on on my coated floor. Plus the two piece you can remove the one part for better access.

There are lots of ways to get the car in the air, like a lot of people I have accumulated many floor jacks, jackstands, several sets of ramps and many blocks wood to get just about anything in the air and keep it there safely. But if you have a Vette and only want one simple and easy way to do an oil change the race ramps or something similar work well - but they certainly arent cheap.

I agree with everyone about the Race Ramps. As an FYI - if you want to get all four wheels up, you can buy the other part of the set (Wheel Cribs) in 8", 10" and 12". You will need a jack, though.

Theta, I believe your right. Two Pair of wheel cribs, jack pucks, and two floor jacks.

Blitz brand ramps from Autozone is what I use. I've had a C5, C6, and my C7 up on them.

I jack up the driver side at the puck, put the ramp under the tire, then move the jack to the front middle and lift the whole front and put jack stands under the pucks.

I can get the jack under the rear middle just fine.

Exactly what I use - no risk of falling with those. You can use Rhino ramps in place of Wheel Cribs to cut down on cost as others have done - works just as well.

For anything requiring an unloaded suspension, I use 4 stands (2 front and 2 rear) on the frame rail (immediately next to where the pucks install) and keep two floor jacks loaded on the front jacking pucks. About as safe as you can get with all 4 wheels hanging (without a lift).

It may be true that the assortment of tools you list do cost about the same as a NEW pair of Race Ramps. But, you can frequently find a USED set of Race Ramps here on CF for a lot less and get a superior solution.

Always good to have a few floor jacks, though, for when you need to get all 4 wheels up and off the floor (ramps or no).

I ended up buying 2 floor jacks and 2 sets of ramps from Discount Auto. Jack the front up, slid the ramps under, then jacked the rear up and slid the ramps under.

Default Would like info on rear cradle

If you jacked up the rear did you put the jack under the rear cradle and if so can you tell me the exact location of the cradle? There appears to be two cast aluminum braces, one in front of the long spring (I think it is a spring, long and black) and one in the rear. I am being told the cradle point is to the front and the book seems to indicate the same - am i correct? Many thanks.
