.
All of the cars over the last couple years have a variable redline vs coolant and/or oil temp. This car is no different.

FYI the LT1 flows 4% more than an LS3 on the engine dyno according to GM... A lot of this is due to the higher volumetric efficiency of not having gasoline vapor occupy space that would otherwise be air in a GDI engine.

Keep in mind though... the comparison dyno I did was against a LS7...not an LS3.

Totally agree for street driving, but for track use I disagree.

Look at how much the torque drops after 4800 RPM. If you look at the transmission ratios, you'll be running from 4500 to Redline (assuming you want to use the full power) and therefore were be in the range where the torque is much lower. Now, I agree that the car still has excellent power, but reducing that drop would be a nice change for track driving, and I'd personally be willing to give up a little low end torque for a decent increase up top.

Of course I'd want to see the exact balance, because I wouldn't want to lose too much low end for only a minimal top end gain.

If you are talking about road racing...honestly the car needs the gear set out of the C6ZR1. To big of a drop with the gear box in the car as it sits. Fine for a street car and AutoX...but it has a rather big drop...just like the early C6 Z51 cars did as it has the same ratio's

Hopefully, we will have our next version of our headers on the dyno tomorrow. Still a 1 3/4 but with different primary lengths and Merge collector location.

Still no tune because we are testing headers only without having the tun interfere with the results.

Next week we should start adding a tune to it.

thanks guys

Should be interesting.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you want to tune the motor with each set of headers? The stock tune could be inherently more biased towards one primary length than another whereas optimal tuning would be biased towards a different primary length, no?

You can skew a bench tune to be favorable toward any product (well, within reason) - we all have the stock tune, so we can better compare gains from the same footing. Somewhere between 410 and 415rwhp.

It also helps to distinguish the gains from their competitors.

Completely agree on this as well. A few months ago, before the car arrived and we were all killing time on the forum by BS'ing, there was a thread where we talked about gear ratios.

I thought the following ratios might be interesting (no idea how they compare to the C6ZR1 though):

Final Drive = 4.25

1st = 2.48; 47 MPH @ 6500 RPM
2nd = 1.83; 64 MPH @ 6500 RPM
3rd = 1.35; 86 MPH @ 6500 RPM
4th = 1.00; 117 MPH @ 6500 RPM
5th = 0.74; 158 MPH @ 6500 RPM
6th = 0.54; 216 MPH @ 6500 RPM (196 MPH @ 5900 RPM, this would likely be top speed)
7th = 0.38; same total ratio as Z51 7th for equivalent FE as current setup.

Don't know much about the transmission details, but was looking to get RPM drop closer to 5000 after each shift rather than the 4500 of the current gears. The choices above get you to 4800 after each shift. Maybe you could make a taller 1st and bunch the middles even more (might help 0-60 if you didn't need a shift). Still think the gap between 4th and 5th above might be a bit much.

Anyhow, probably drifted too far off topic at this point.

Does look like the engine will respond very well to mods, and I am looking forward to see what becomes available. Hopefully some will even be CARB legal (or at least too difficult to notice when time for a check-up).

The car is back on the lift as of yesterday and work is being done on the next couple of designs.

Research and Develop is what it is all about!
Thanks for the explanation Anthony. All makes sense and your approach is appreciated.

I never get on a car when it's cold, so I guess I wouldn't have noticed...when did they start that exactly?

-40 oil temp they are limited to 2700, but it is full redline by 68 degree's.

The limiter vs water temp is also scaled by engine run time car starts at say 50 degree water temp the redline is 5000 rpm but only for the first 5 seconds...

You can also change the no lift shift feature a little on these too and the roll back assist. So there are a bunch of small new features added into the program.

Still more work to be done, and tuning of course as well. 9pm here tonight but we wanted to get a feel for what the LT1 can actually do with our Super Pro's. No cats, still no tune yet....first day is complete.

Enjoy!
that's about as much horsepower as a Z06........nice.

Still have another 4-5 designs right now we are working on trying before we get into fine tuning the program for absolute final numbers.

Stay tuned!
