I did the same thing to the upper part of my door, it only cost $900 and change to fix it perfect.

That's an incredible price. The Chevrolet bodyshop told me I have to replace the outer door panel and paint it. It will be about 2.5k If you can explain how you fixed it for $900 it would be greatly appreciated. Do you also have a photo of your door when it had the damage? This way I can show the shop so they don't say "his damage must have not been as serious as yours". Thanks a lot!

Its just fiberglass any competent bodyshop can fix it. In short, cut out area back 1/2 inch past fraying and use fiberglass filler that has short strand glass in it and its a paint and blend fix, or 2500 for a whole door.Or at least that is what I would do with it.
If it were a bigger area then glass mat and resin etc.

I don't think Chevy sells just the skin .. you have to get the entire door shell ... but even the door shell is less than $1K ...

I would try another body shop, I scraped my driver's side rear quarter panel and the dealer's body shop removed the quarter panel, repaired the 2 inch long scratch and repainted it. Charged 1K.
