C7 history shows failed emissions

C7 history shows failed emissions
2016 very low miles but failed emisssions test several times before passing back in 2020. Is this anything to worry about?
Another question is that the car only has 1,600 miles. Too few or could it be an odometer change?
Before I zoom off for a look I thought to ask this or is there anything else to be aware of ??

My last car was a 2018 Camaro SS with under 10K miles, all stock. It failed emissions once because I had disconnected the battery and not driven it enough so sensors weren't ready.
For me I would make the stipulation that I want proof car has passed current emissions or no deal, other then that I wouldn't be really concerned

The battery probably died and/or was replaced. That will reset all the monitors and if they're not all running at smog check time it will fail. It doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem with the car, just that all the conditions weren't met to start the various monitors. If it passes currently I wouldn't be too concerned with it. If there were any serious codes generated, they should still be in the history file which can be looked at with a good scanner tool.

I may have jumped the gun on this one, there is also a mileage discrepancy according to Carfax. There are a few others that have popped up recently so I'll keep looking.

Carfax history and GMVIS history. Sounds like a fluke that it failed emissions, with that low of miles 🤔. That usually means that the car's been MODDED. Some used buyers want modded cars. Just not the major market pool will want em.
I dunno.
I dunno.

Mileage discrepancies are somewhat common with CarFax. CarFax's reporting system is prone to user errors. All it takes is one person working on the car finger-fumbling data entry into a PC to get an incorrect mileage report.

Failing the emissions check 4 years ago means nothing. If it is failing now that is an issue. A low-mile garage queen type of car probably failed because the Readiness Monitors weren't complete after the battery was discharged, disconnected or some other code was reset. Once that happens the Readiness Monitors have to go through a system self-test. To pass the tests the car has to be driven so many miles, under specified conditions with multiple cold starts. Under normal driving conditions, it can take several weeks to reset the monitors. If the emissions system is not reporting any problems now don't worry about it.

Carfax is more often wrong than right. When I bought my 2019 GS the dealer gave me unlimited access to Carfax for the car. Every couple of months I get a report from them. The mileage is never right. It appears to me they are guessing instead of relying on input from the dealer or DMV. My mileage went up and then back down when the dealer reported the correct mileage after an oil change.

Usually the report says something like "not ready" when failing emissions (as some brand new ones did in CA). An "Advanced search" across the C7 Forum sections should find a number of these threads. All the best.

It looks like the mileage could be a clerical error. It was entered as over 7,000 within weeks after it was sold followed soon after with a title correction so this may be nothing to worry about. No explanation was given for the title correction and according to Carfax no mileage was listed before the current up for sale entry.
Then several years later it failed emission tests several times within a couple weeks, battery was replaced then failed a couple more times before passing and the record shows it has passed in the years following.
With the explanations given here I can see where it could be a nothing to worry about. It is super low mileage one owner and if the mileage is now correct has sat in the garage for all this time so I'm intrigued but for a car with low mileage one owner the price seems too low but I have no experience checking out a Vette and would feel better to have a proper mechanic to check it out.
Can anyone recommend a Vette mechanic in the Highland Indiana area?
One other thing, the top is a see through top. Is it possible to source a painted one?

Yes its possible to source a clear one, but be warned: depending on the source or market place (fascist book mostly) removeable tops seem to be a favorite item for scammers to offer for sale.

Does the car have the automatic A8 transmission? If so, could be the prior owner had plugged in the Range device to try and avoid the dreaded shuddering and cylinder deactivation, then not removing it soon enough to allow all the sensors to reset before the emissions test.
