Default Torque tube question

Helping a friend change out his torque tube. The new gm tube has two bolts that thread into the tube in the front bearing area. His ole tube just has plugs. Maybe something has changed in the later tubes?? I assume the bolts need to stay in the new tube. Anyone seen this before?

I'm assuming it's an automatic transmission. If so, the bolts are to position things. From the Service Manual....

Yes, it is an auto. Looks like they need to come out after installation. Thanks so much for the help and info.

It's buried in the Service Manual under "Transmission Replacement". The doc is attached. Lemme know if you need anything else.
