Default 2015 C7 tara top cracking

The hot Florida sun has been taking a toll on our older (clear) 2015 C7 targa top as its starting to crack. Its never flew off or hit the ground etc. Its really cracking from heat and sun. This is our older of two C7s (other a 2019 convertable) Whats my options for fixing the 2015 top? A scratch and dent hold may be a good temp fix or is there a way to get get a new clear lense to go into our 2015 roof hardware?

Help!

Check with Melrose Tops - they may offer a panel replacement service.

Tops come up for sale the C7 Parts for Sale/Wanted forum pretty regularly.

Melrose T-Tops International has good availability and decent pricing on new & refurbished tops, along with Re-Lensing Service.

When I bought my (new) transparent top in 2022, shipping was prompt, it was well-packed, and arrived as-advertised. FWIW, I remain happy with the transaction and recommend Melrose. Good luck!

Did you buy the entire top or more like a kit to add new top glass to yours? If so is there instructions online?

Are you sure the top is cracking. It could be just the clearcoat crazing. That's an easy fix that I've done to two tops.

My 2014 C7 had a damage by the sun couple years ago. My C7 was in the body shop, left a few months in the parking lot near Pompano Beach area. It did not crack but surface became totally rough, polishing did not do any improvement. I bought a new roof panel and transferred all the hardware from old one. I bought the panel from Stingray Chevrolet in Bartow/FL. The panel was around $1,500.

I never seen anything quite like it. Its a physical straight line of the plastic cracked., its slightly raised so if you rub your hand across it you can feel how its a crack. In time I could see this crack going all the way across and cutting the top in two? Photo upon request.

Another recommendation for Melrose. We bought a replacement transparent top for our 1994 C4. We sent our old top back as a core exchange. We were very happy with the replacement top. I would buy from them again.

I had a crack develop in the transparent top on my C6 (caused by the vibration from an orbital buffer). It started at a notch on the edge and was about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. I had it fixed at a body shop. They drilled a small hole at the end of the crack (as a stress reliever) and then glued the crack. They painted both sidesc of the top (portion over the frame) to match the colour of the transparent top. It came out really well, with no further issues.

If your question was aimed at me, as I said, I bought a new top. I did not go with refurb or their re-lens options.

Another one for Melrose T Tops if you haven’t tried them yet. I highly recommend them. Very knowledgeable friendly people to deal with. Family owned and been around a longtime. I was there before and was given a tour of there shop and even helped unload a truck full of OEM Transparent tops for the C7 was very cool. I bought a replacement at the time and got to hand pick my top from the truck load.

I purchased my C7 last June and it only had a silver top. I went to the local Corvette dealership and they actually had a couple for sale and I bought a previously owned top that was like brand new. I paid $1200.00. They also had a bunch of car covers and I picked out the best one for $40.00. Then I bought the top holder from Amazon and the silver top sits downstairs on a wall in my fishing, hunting and car room. I would buy a new one or scout around for a good used top.

I have been told that new transparent tops are no longer available from GM, unless you get lucky and find one hidden away at a dealer. Used, or Melrose Tops, seem to be the only choices.
Can anyone confirm/deny that?

As I understand it, GM production of these ended. They remain available, however, from dealers that have a supply on-hand. Melrose is one of those dealers.

Excellent, Thanks!
Our original 2017 transparent top (we don't have the painted version) still looks like new at 7 yrs/55k miles, which is a lot better than our transparent C5 and C6 tops held up.
And Melrose Tops is less than a hour drive away, if we do need a replacement some day.
I knew there had to be some advantage to living in the midwest...
