C7 3LT interior
I’m looking for ideas/recommendations on which option for a 3LT interior.
I have to replace my c7 dash due to vandalism. Some homeless person caved my windshield in and damaged the front dash.
The current interior is a 3lt all black.
The car has been in the shop for 2 months and GM has no ship date for the new dash. I’ve spoke with dealers who have ordered the same dash and it’s taken 4-6 months.
But there is a couple dealers who have the Kalahari dash in stock and can ship immediately.
These are my options
1. Wait 4-6 months for a black dash, hopefully 6 months would be the latest, no guarantee.
2. Order the Kalahari dash and have a upholstery shop change it to black
3. Same as above but keep the Kalahari and change the interior to Kalahari/Black
what would you do?
thanks

How about the availability of a 2LT dash - no worries about possible delimitation. Seems like a waste to get a wrong colored dash then recover it, but I guess better than waiting months to get the car fixed.

So you don’t recommend upholstering the new dash, what about keeping the Kalahari and changing the interior to a Kalahari and Black vs an all black interior, which is what I have now.

Could get pricey switching. Would you do seats and door panels ? They say in other threads that the GM dash glue is not good and private shops use different. If the dealer let me, I would probably take the dash to a good private place and change the tan to black . Then let dealer install it. The Kalahari may bubble up too. Why not take your original dash to a place to redo? Would dealership approve that?

The removal/installation would be done by an auto body shop. It’s an insurance claimed. I hear you in the GM glue, my original dash is bubbling up, too. I had spoken with an upholstery shop and they recommended vinyl that looks like leather, but it won’t bubble up. Because leather doesn’t stretch, in fact, it shrinks in heat that’s why the leather is coming off where the dash arches downward.
if I keep with the Kalahari colored dash then I would have the door panels trims and the seats upholster to match the dash.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for the recommendation.
Side note, my 3LT leather dash is pulling up at the center vent. No bubbling. Must have shrunk there. I thought, if it got bad, I would consider using a good body shop to remove it and get it redone. Figured a body shop must taken dashes apart all the time. Would you keep us posted on what you do and how it turns out please. Mark

I would go with a black 2LT assuming you can find one.

Just picked up my baby up yesterday from the body shop. After I posted the original thread the shop called me up a couple days later and said the black dash was available to ship in a couple weeks.
She needs to go back in the shop. Both driver and passenger windows cannot go up all the way creating a lot of wind noise in the cabin.
The upper instrument panel has noticeable scuff marks, the part was not replaced. Was thinking taking her to an upholstery shop and have them alcantara it in black.
The good news from all this, the shop clear coated both doors, hood, front bumper, and the removal roof top. And will cover the window tint and ceramic coating.

Phooey with GM, you need an experienced quality upholsterer. Such can do miracles! I know; mine who recently retired unfortunately, did a passel of my cars, a couple completely from scratch. Of course, he also did factory-direct customs for a major top-o-the-line tractor company, and for Lear Jet.

I found a shop that does custom work from scratch. Went to his shop, met him and his crew. Saw their finished work, nice stitching and quality finished.
I'm thinking going with grey or silver alcantara trims to match the brushed aluminum.
