Default Mystery Rattle

Hello Forum Friends,

I have a 2017 C7 Grand Sport. When I am cruising downtown at 35 to 40 mph, I get a loud rattle that sounds like it is coming from the left shoulder de of the engine compartment. The rattle seems to always be at the same frequency no matter what sped I am doing when it happens. If I give it a bit of gas, it stops, but comes back as soon as I am back at a constant speed. I’ve never noticed it at hissy speeds. Has anybody else experienced this rattle? Thanks in advanced for your replies.

Sorry, have not had such a noise on my car. Good luck tracking it down.

I had both my rear control arms go bad, and chased a rattle for 6 months. I had it on a lift and checked everything I could but it only happened when I drove the car. Might want to check your fronts for the same issue?

Check the door on your cabin filter. I got the same noise when I forgot to snap the little door closed. Just a thought.

I checked the cabin filter door and it was closed tight. Thanks for the suggestion.

Default Update to the mystery rate

Hello C7 Friends,

So, I took the car out to test a new theory. I’ve noticed the rattle only between 35 and 45 mph and between 1200 and 1500 rpm cruising, but not accelerating. I mentioned it to my dad who thought to test it in manual mode by keeping it in the gears that correlate best to these rattle parameters. I found the rattle in 6th and 7th gears. Once in manual mode, I could not repeat the rattle. As soon as I got the car in automatic drive, the rattle came back at 6th and 7th. Any ideas? I’ve added a video. You can hear the rattle at about 6 seconds into the 8 second video.

Thanks Again.

Richard

If you don’t experience the noise while in the manual shift mode, I would suspect it is something related to the AFM system cycling between 4 and 8 cylinders. Does your driver info screen show any change between 4 and 8 cylinders when the noise occurs? Does your tach rpm fluctuate in conjunction with the noise you’re hearing?

I’ll check that out once the rain stops. Thanks for the guidance.

I Have a 2016 3lt , vert , I also have a rattle but not like yours , mine sounds like it comes from the steering wheel or somewhere close to the door , I have had it on the hoist and tried to tap, shake , and can't replicate it I have had the car 4 yrs now. This is my goal this spring is to find it, good luck with yours. R
