Fuel door locking rod
Imagine my surprise when I drive to the gas station and my fuel door won't open. Hmm maybe passive lock got me, pull open door (no lock actuation) hm ok... Key fob and unlock .. nothing... Google search "c7 fuel door won't open" find thread on this forum. I don't have time for a plug. Here's my contribution..
Now that I've had dinner and a beer it's funny.

I have no idea what Chevrolet was thinking about, when, they did not put a mechanical release in the trunk, like they did in the C6.

Can that pin be broken off or disabled without having to remove body panels?
It's very highly unlikely that someone is going to mess with my gas tank locally.
I would just much rather it not engage at all.

common issue for some, I unplugged mine while it was still working so it doesnt happen to me.
luckily there is a few tips to gas the gas door open without damaging it and then usually most stick a plug into the hole so the actuator rod cant go in to lock it.

When I had the rear fender liner out to do some other work. I pulled the pin back out of the hole and turned it 90 degrees.
It'll never lock but it'll never get stuck. Took 60 seconds with the liner out of the way.

There's an easier and cleaner fix to the problem of non opening gas doors. This is more of a preventive measure. The gas door has a hole where the locking plunger extends into to keep it from opening. Just open the gas door and insert a small rubber plug or plastic panel rivet into the hole. That'll prevent the plunger from latching into the door to keep it locked. The rubber plug or rivet can be eaily removed and will look a lot cleaner.than a zip tie. You can buy the plug or rivet at your local auto parts store under the Dorman or Help parts section.
