Have been thinking about one for my DD, so will follow this thread and see what dash cams are being used.

I am currently running the Escort Max 360c detector and am considering upgrading to their Maxcam 360c which is basically the same detector with an integrated dash cam.

For me, it would be road rage incidents. Let's say someone is tailgating you for a few blocks on residential streets and then they decide to pass you as you are turning left and then you get hit, spun, etc. Their fault, but you can have proof of how this all unfolded and this could lead to more charges, i.e., following too closely, reckless driving, etc. The more evidence you have, the better. Moral compasses are so out of whack these days and there is no such thing as too much evidence/proof.

I have a 23 C8. Is the fuse panel easily accessible? I hope.

Heel & Toe
Blackvue & Viofo
I have a Blackvue (installed in 2022) in the C7 and a Viofo (installed in 2023) in a Lexus ES350. Both are 4K front and the Viofo ihas the rear cam at a slightly lower resolution (I forget what that rear resolution spec is).
The Blackvue is front camera only, while the Viofo is front AND rear. The Viofo was about 20% cheaper for two cameras than the Blackvue was for the single camera. In hindsight, I wish I'd sprung for the Blackvue for the tin car as well, despite the much increased price for the Korean-built system.
1)The video is significantly clearer in the Blackvue 4K vs the Viofo 4K front cam. 2) the Blackvue has a much smaller "footprint" on the front glass than the Viofo (likely because the Blackvue doesn't have a playback screen where the Viofo does - the Viofo's screen is pretty much unviewable though) 3) the Blackvue field of view is significantly wider than the Viofo's
The main thing I dislike about the Blackvue is the short segment recording - the Blackvue is limited to 1 minute long segments max, with a few second's delay while the buffer dumps onto the memory card then the Blackvue starts recording "live" again. The Viofo can be set to record up to 2 minute long segments
Both are worthwhile to own - I didn't feel it necessary to put a rear cam in the C7 - I always reverse into parking spots, and generally in an end spot wherre I can edge over towards the side where nobody else is parked. Plus the Lexus is driven much more, in heavier traffic, with lots of fools crowding the a$$-end of the vehicle. The 'Vette only gets driven on pretty much open roads, and I stay out of harm's way from the tailgaters.

Specific to the A119...
Pros:
- Easy to install
- Easy to route to fuse box provided you buy the kit
- Great quality video even at 30fps
- Will shut off in parking mode when it drains the battery to a certain point
- Cable is a little thicker than I like but hiding it in trim isn't that difficult
- The head end of the power cable has a small cylindrical piece inline which you cannot hide in the headliner trim without serious effort. I just double-sided velcro'd mine to the leading edge of the headliner to make it a little cleaner. That bigger box below is hidden in my driver's side footwell near the fuse box.
- This particular unit didn't include a memory card or hardwire kit, so I had an additional $50 in it for these pieces.
- It is a pain to get connected to it to review videos or make changes. It makes you connect to its own wifi, which is slow and choppy when reviewing video on your phone. I don't think an officer would be that patient. Bluetooth would have been a better choice, but this is a basic unit.
- The 3m adhesive patch they give you to mount looks bad from the outside of the car. No matter how hard/evenly you press it into place, there are bubbles and areas of no contact making it look bad. I have a hard time getting past that, but it is just my daily driver.

I use a Thinkware Q800 front and back. I like that one because it is low profile and works with the windshield well. I have had this one for 5 years so I am sure there is a newer/better model.
Dashcams are 100% mandatory IMO. You would not believe my "saved folder of morons", as well as accidents. I was rear ended last year and there was no disputing the video.

They are very easy to install but there are some caveats. I put a VIOFO A119 Mini in my daily driver and it wasn't too bad. I do not have one in my Stingray. I bought a hardwire kit so that I could power it from the fuse box using fuse taps (not included) since I didn't want to use a power port. I usually have my cell charging and radar detector going and that's enough cords. I was a little put off by the thickness of the USB-C cable but it wasn't too bad to route it cleanly to the fuse box. I tapped an accessory slot and a power slot for it since it has parking mode (recording when the car is off if there is motion or impact to the car).
