What is a wide body?
I just bought my first corvette, a base model 2019 stingray. I have a question about the references I see here on the forum about "wide body corvettes". What are they and do they look different than a base model?

Yes they are quite different. Grand Sport & Z06 are both wide body C7 Corvettes

Don't forget the ZR1 as well. All three are "wide bodied" in order to accommodate wider tires, trans cooler and diff coolers in each side of the rear fenders. The real difference is under the hood!

From the rear, here are visible differences. A Stingray (narrow body) is on top. A Z06 (wide body; same a GS and ZR1) is on the bottom:
On wide bodies, the overall width of the license plate recess is greater; the distance between the left and right tail lights is greater; and the air exhaust vents at the lower corners of the fascia are wider.

Thanks, so is the actual overall width of the body more than the stingray body? I would think that means the interior cockpit space would be wider also?

The unibody is the same, thus the cabin is the same size. The doors, roof, halo, hatch, and interior are identical between all C7s.

Yes, the overall width of the wide body cars is greater, but IIRC, the interior space is the same as the narrow body cars.

Also, all wide-bodies have the air inlet vent on the lower quarter panel just in front of the rear wheels, as nicely shown in Juicebox's post #4 above.

The rear of the Z is 3.5 inches wider, but the distance between the side view mirrors, which is the widest point, are the same. If the Stingray fits in your garage, then the Z06 will also fit. Same for ZR1 GS.

I was between buying a z51 Base and Grand sport....when I saw them next to each other I thought the widebody was a HUGE difference in looks and stance. To each his own though. Interesting that you bought a 70k car without knowing much about the different models?
