Key Fob Battery
Want to get a spare battery for my key fob for when the time comes for replacement. Don’t have my manual handy. Is it the 3 volt CR 2032? That’s what is called for in my other vehicles, although I had to open the case to find that out since those manuals only show how to replace the battery but don’t tell you the type required. I’m assuming the C7 manual is the same. Fortunately, those other vehicles also display a dash warning when the fob battery is getting low. As far as I know, the C7 doesn’t have that feature. Can someone please tell me if I’m wrong? Sure would be nice if it does.

Got a low key fob battery on the screen last night when shut car off. Replaced the CR2032 in my C7 key fob. Simple procedure.

Thanks! 😀 That’s good to know. I read so many posts from user’s concerning fob issues. The suggested fix always seems to be to replace the fob battery. Never hear any mention of a dash message advising the fob battery is low. Just assumed that feature didn’t exist on the C7.

Learned my lesson years ago, buy brand name batteries. Unfortunately, Harbor Freight is not a bargin when it comes to batteries.

The 2032 battery is the right one and yes, there is a warning message on the DIC when the fob battery gets low. I had it pop up on my car.

Using a good brand of batteries is great advice, but use a voltmeter to check the new battery. I have found that sometimes the FOB would not work correctly when the voltage was around 3 volts. but worked well when voltage was at 3.3 volts.

I always keep one in the plastic wrap, in the Console, to be sure! The Duracell, sold at Costco, has a 10 year shelf life.

Great timing. Must be the week for dead fob batteries. 🤣 Went to take the Vette out for a Sunday cruise, and you guessed it. The fob was dead. Wouldn’t open the doors or hatch. So I stuck the one remaining CR 2032 battery I had into it, and all is well again. Bought the car (used) in May of this year, so have no idea how long the old battery had been in it. But on my last drive several weeks ago, all had been well with no dash warnings of a weak fob battery. Went ahead and purchased a pair of new ones (Energizers) with an expiration date of 2033 to have handy as spares. FWIW, I encountered no difficulty opening the fob case. Just used a sharp knife along the seams of the case and carefully pried it open. Was careful not to let that little key release button with the spring to pop out.

Check any replacement FOB battery with a good volt-meter before installing it. I've gotten bad ones from big-box stores.

This thread made me think to check my FOB battery. I always use a Sharpie to put the month and year on the battery. It was over two years old and I replaced it.
