Default Crash!

Just had an old lady pull out from a stop sign in front of me, moved 10 feet with no traffic coming and slammed on the brakes. CRUNCH! WTF!. After we talked, didn't call any authorities, my mind blown, she did the same thing, pulled out and hit her brakes,,,,,,,, WTF! I KNOW, I am the one behind, my fault.
OK,,,,,, I am ranting, I have NEVER crashed any of my classic cars.
My question, should I take it to the chevy dealer or a local custom body shop?

I have in the past contacted my local Corvette Club and asked them for a body shop recommendation. I would not use the dealers body shop.

Sorry to hear about that. I've taken all of our vehicles...C3, C5 and C7 included...to a trusted local body shop that prides themselves in their work, and does it for half the price of a dealer.

I do have insurance, so price isn't so much of an issue. I do understand about the dealers, but who would know more about making it new again?

How bad is it? Do you have a pic? If you use your insurance it will be on the car fax. Good luck.

If you post pix you'll get guidance on whether to claim it and try to get diminishing value or just pay it out of pocket to keep your rates down.

I was worried when I was rear ended in November that no shop would be able to match my super rare and exotic Admiral Blue GS, that is until I stopped by the shop and saw that I was sharing a room with a F40. My car was the cheapest by far there and looks far better than it ever did. They even matched the orange peel.

The right shop will do an amazing job! Fear not, they have this!

I would take the car to whichever body shop has the best reputation for doing quality repair work. If that happened to be the dealer, so be it.

Same thing happened to me except I was on my Harley.

You may not be at fault if the police determines that the driver in front of you 'created' a hazardest condition as in my case. ie: he did it on purpose to cause a wreck.

Lucky for me only slight damage to my bike and not me.

Looking closer at the damage, the nose section isn't cracked, just scuffed. I am hoping sanding and paint will fix the nose. The fender has a crack at the wheel well edge, maybe that can also be repaired.

I just watched the video on how to remove the front nose cover. This has to be done just to change the headlight bulbs. There are lots of bolts but doesn't look that bad. I think I will remove it to get the front painted. Then the wheel well area can be fixed much easier.

The fender doesnt look bad. I agree with taking the bumper cover off for repairs. A power drill with 7mm and 10 mm sockets and I can get mine off in 1 hour. Good luck!

The fender seems to have tabs that are glued to the outer surface that bolt go through to hold it down, I think they came off.
I am also thinking, if the front is off, to change both headlight bulbs. My luck, when it's all fixed, one of the headlights will burn out.

Pics would help. In addition, you may be looking at the inner fender which is glued to the frame while others may be thinking about the actual yellow (ie outer) fender that bolts on. If the inner fender is cracked/broken, how bad the damage is will determine if you repair it or have to chisel it off and install a new one.

If the headlights work, I'd leave them alone.

Be sure to check the radiator support. Those are often bent in a frontal accident and you'll never get things lined up correctly if it's not fixed

This is what the bumper looks like off the car:

This is the radiator support and you can see how it bent downward from a very low speed (<10mph) frontal impact

The above is mine. It was barely 5 months old and it's obviously before I switched it to a track day car. A gal ran a stop sign and we got to meet. Fortunately I was able to slow enough to minimize damage

Then

Now

Luckily the damage is only on the right side of the front. When I get it off I can check for other damage. Did you replace the entire front or just get it fixed?
