Without knowing what you are trying to achieve, it might be difficult to help. Do you need to upload to the cloud? Do you need it to have a battery system?

Dashcams are rapidly becoming $20 commodity items. They typically last a year or two because either the battery or capacitor in them fails. (Required to record for 30 seconds AFTER an accident occurs with power potentially being lost.

They don't suffer dashboard heat real well. Take it down when not in use.

Check TEMU, a half dozen choices for under $25.

Want to spend $200 on one? Go for it.

Last 3 I've bought were from Amazon, $39. I've owned 9-10 of 'em. For all practical purposes they're ALL THE SAME. Same or similar chip, near-identical menus, almost
the same resolution. Even the one with the highly touted glass (not plastic) lens wasn't appreciably better.

Amazon Amazon

Couple of points.
  • Turn off G-sensing. Rough road will make it stop recording.
  • Turn ON voice recording. READ the offending license plate out loud. Even at 4K you still can't read 'em.
  • Don't buy or else turn off GPS. Don't want to broadcast the fact you were doing 85 in a 65
  • In an accident, simply unplug it. You'll never remember the tiny buttons to press, esp in a state of shock. They're
designed to lock the last file if power is lost.

If you really want to go the extra mile, PRETEND you were in an accident, and practice recovering the video on your computer. You'll quickly
see that even 4K isn't "good enough" to capture a dirty plate on a car rapidly moving away from you at an angle.

Lastly, don't reveal you had a dashcam running until AFTER the other driver lies, or whatever. Save the video for your insurance agent or the court.

Viofo A129 if you want dual dams. Front and rear. Had them in my Jeeps. Need to pick up another for the C7.

A friend has a Viofo A129 Pro installed in his car. It has an excellent video quality, the best that I have seen. And, it is a very stable product, never locks up. On the other hand, he has an entry level low cost dashcam installed in his other car, and it often locks up during the hot summer Florida months. It overheats and shuts down.

I've owned 9 or 10 dashcams from 4 or 5 different mfr's. From $200 (ten years ago) to $20 (Temu, 30 days ago)

While the cheap ones I've bought (and use) typically fail COMPLETELY in under 3 years (buy the Amazon extended warranty???) ---
or get stolen -

I haven't had any that would or wouldn't work depending on the day's heat.

I have to wonder if more expensive ones will be any longer lived. They're all Chinese crap.

I live in Phoenix.
