30 years+ of carshows, this one was a nightmare.
First, thank you CF for providing a place to vent. I know most of you, like me, have been doing car shows for a long time. I showed my 63 Stingray vert for 26 years. No issues. I've continued to show my 19 GS M7 vert. I rarely had to tell anyone of any age to not touch the car.
Well, it's official. Carnivals and car shows don't mix. I literally had to pull kids off my side skirts trying to climb over the door to get in. Yelled at the mom, who responded, "But it's a show car" as if some kind of excuse. I was speechless, until I asked for her address so I could come over and climb on her car. Off they went. Too much sugar for the kids I'm assuming. Other cars were subjected to the same brutality.
I will now avoid car shows that include carnivals, sugared-hyped kids, and parents who are dumber than dirt and afraid to tell their brats no. Or maybe I should install door handles to make it easier to climb up?!? Any one else dealing with this "new-to-me" crap?

I had a sweet young thing sprawled out on the hood of my car getting her picture taken. Do you guys have a guess on how many f-bombs she took before she got her *** off of my car? Us 79 year olds are good at loading up a string of words to fire out in microbursts to get someone's attention!

Yeah it's amazing how little people care for other peoples hard earned property.. how dare you tell her kids not to scratch up and break things on your car...

I watched a mother lifting her kids into my friend's car at a car show. At least there was no argument when he asked her to remove them.

Makes a vein pop on my head just reading this. I'm happy to put a kid in my car on on my bike, but the first brat with a clueless parent will be met with immediate words and embarrassment.
Perfect reply OP, "Can I come over and walk all over YOUR car?". Now I get why some put velvet ropes around their cars.

I like the OP have been participating in car shows for many years. Once left my car for a few minutes and came back to see a guy and his girlfriend sitting in my car. I was shocked beyond belief. I would never think of touching someone else's car without permission. Just unbelievable.

I love going to car shows & looking at other people's cars. I try to find one every weekend. I'm thankful for the many people (like the OP) that are kind enough to detail & display their cars.
However, I don't like people anywhere near my cars; and it drives me crazy when people feel like they need to touch them. I'd be too stressed to ever have my Corvette in a car show. I'll stick with going to shows, instead of being in them.

There is a monthly car show here that jam packs the cars into a grassy area, but since the show attracts some really high end cars like Lambos, Ferraris, and the like, its heavily attended.
I see people bumping into cars as they walk by them all the time, so I never take my car to this show. Most of the car guys will keep their kids off the cars, but I see moms letting them run around and of course they touch the cars.

Had my C2 at an indoor show, roped off. Still had a dad send his child inside the rope for pictures and encouraged the child to attempt to stand on my side pipes etc. Luckily, a show volunteer stopped it all just as I was walking up.

One of my pet peeve is people with dogs. Even with signs all over the place ("NO PETS"), they still bring them and wouldn't think of picking up the poop. I'm not talking about service dogs, that's something different.

For some, going to a car show is like going to a different country. The culture of “car shows” is not widely known outside of car shows and car culture. Not everyone has reverence for cars or sees them as anything beyond shiny transportation or a chance for a good picture. This increases exponentially the more the audience expands. In situations like this, it’s not hard to offend and to break cultural expectations. Add to this that many car shows are populated with ordinary cars. A 63 Covette is just an old car for those who don’t understand why it is special. Lots of folks Dad’s had Chevelles so an SS says nostalgia rather than $80,000 for the uninitiated. Not saying that they should touch your car or do the other stupid things people do, but dumb people are all over and always have been.

Except for the one incident, I really can't recall any other times people were that careless at a show. For the most part, people have been respectful and happy to see the cars. That being said, I'm glad to always be with other club members at shows. We keep an eye on each others cars.
