Default Removal of road paint

I was browsing threads and came across this one. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ing-paint.html Unfortunately the thread has been closed so I can't ask a question there.

I don't currently have this problem on my C7 but that thread indicates it is best to address the problem as soon as possible so I want to be ready just in case. When I searched for the 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner it is hard to find and has apparently been banned in some states including mine (PA.)

Years ago my wife drove her car through some wet paint and I remember it being a nightmare to get off. I believe I used some paint stripper (which has also since been banned) but I don't want the use that on the Corvette. Anybody know where to get the 3M cleaner or of a substitute?

I found quite a bit on the quarter panels of my Ram some time ago that; and, it had been there a while... fully hardened and set-up. I ended up using my thumb-nails and popped it all off one tiny spec at a time, but no damage at all and could never tell it had been there. Plus, I rewaxed the area when I was done.

I had this happen on my last C5 and it was yellow road line paint on my 2003 Anniversary Red coupe and I didn't know what to do, but I got a old credit card cut it in half and used the better part of a Can of WD-40 and it took a while, but I was able to safely remove all of the road line paint (Pretty thick stuff ) off the car rocker panels and I was able to restore the paint without any long lasting damage !

WD-40 can be used for a multitude of things, including tar and road paint removal.

A long time ago I got to close to a yellow pole with a company car. It did not damage the car, but, left a yellow streak down the side.

I tried thinner and everything else I could find and nothing worked. I finally found a spray can of Graffiti Remover. I tried a small, out of the way spot to see if it would damage the paint. It did not and took the paint right off. No one ever noticed. You might try that with a Q-tip and see how that works.

As long as it is factory paint, Acetone works great.

Acetone, goof off, with a potential need to polish (orange pad) at the end.
As long as you have clear coat, things usually are not that hard to remove - the surface has to have some good preparation for things to stick.

Try Mother's aluminum polish and a cotton rag or buffer
