Default Range Device Power On Light

Got my new to me 2014 C7 home yesterday. Having a hard time wiping the smile off my face 😀. Getting reacquainted with many of its features. It’s such a cool car!

Anyway, one of the first things I did was plug in the Range device I had kept after selling my previous 2016 C7. Noticed the device’s little power on light (mine’s blue) remains on continuously. It’s been a while, and I couldn’t remember if that was normal or not. Suspect it is, but anyone here know? I have the updated one from the factory and it never caused any problem with parasitic draw on the battery on my previous C7.

Stays on. It is a led and draws about one milliamp. Your car won’t notice unless you ignore it for months without a tender or battery disconnect.

I have a Range device on my 2017 Stringray and the blue light on the range device only comes on when I start up the car.

🤔 Hmm? Makes me wonder now. Wonder if they’ve changed anything in recent years? Mine was purchased in 2016 or 17 and directly from the company. Had the latest software update to prevent any battery drain and never did so on my 2016 C7. Just couldn’t remember if it stayed illuminated all the time or not. It’s very faint and hard to tell unless you get down low under the dash and look. But it’s definitely on. Doesn’t bother me unless it indicates a problem.

My 2019 Z06 light is on "only" when car is running. And I didn't think you needed a Range for the 2014 A6.

It’s my understanding that it is still desirable to prevent the engine from cycling back and forth between 4 and 8 cylinders. With the A8 transmission (starting in 2015) and it’s associated shudder problems, it was thought the cylinder deactivation was causing torque converter issues that never presented itself with the A6. Sounds like the triple flush procedure has fixed the shudder, but I still don’t want my 2014 to run on 4 cylinders.

The shuddering is caused by the fluid AFTER it has absorbed enough water to cause an issue and the triple flush takes the old fluid out. If so, IDK if it makes a difference other than switching back and forth from V8 to V4. I have talked to shops and the reviews are mixed as to whether this causes issues or not.

The lights on the Range Device in my 2014 goes off when the ignition is off. And yes, I have the device on my A6 to keep it out of A4 mode.
