How rare is my car?
We just celebrated one year with the car, and now my wife wants me to buy one for her too. (she WANTS one, but we are not shopping for a car right now) She loves it - we both do. The question came up of how many are there like ours? This is what I know:
- Lime Rock Green coupes, 357 stingrays were made
- M7 was about 30% of the base cars
- 1030 of 11134 stingray coupes were 2LT Kalahari
- about half of coupes had the chrome wheels
- There was a special edition LRG with Brownstone, so that may be more common than Kalahari?
So, doing the napkin math, it seems about 100 would be LRG M7. Of those 10% would have Kalahari 2LT, and half with chrome, meaning it's one of 5. Now, I understand the napkin math is sketchy at best, so, probably this car is one of something less than 25 or 30.
My question is where can I go to find out the real answer? Isn't there a way to find out from the museum? I looked at their site but didn't find a way. Who knows?

Being rare is not always a great thing. It means very few people were interested in vehicles exactly like yours when purchasing new.

I have tried to do the same thing as you and find an "exact" number built that are just like mine. I haven't found anything yet that will give you an exact number and I'm not sure there is anything out there that will. Your best options are the Corvette black book or reaching out to the museum, which I did last year. At this point, all they can provide you with is the total break down for your production year. From there, you need to go down the list and extract the info for the options that your car has, much like you have already done. I'm not sure you're going to get a much more accurate number than you already have. At least I haven't found anything.
Good luck and congratulations on one year of ownership! I just hit 1 year as well!

You can really only go by the single item lowest # you can confirm.
For instance my 16' Z06 M7 coupe is Night Race Blue.
It is a Manual, but no way to guarantee how many of them per color and there were 3566 of the Z06 coupes built with a stick.
The NRB color was only made for 2 years of the Z06's (187 in 15' and 175 in 16') .....so there are only 362 NRB C7 Z06 Coupes ever built.
It also came with a factory Full Cyber Gray racing stripe. There were only 23 Z06 Couples built with that option.
So at worst mine is 1 of 175 (if a color makes it rare), at best mine is 1 of 23 (if a stripe sticker makes it rare).
At the end of the day there were over 39k C7 Z06's built so it's really not that rare at all.

Utilizing the Corvette Black Book and the All Chevrolet Corvette Colors, Codes & Quantities book for 2014-2019 I was able to figure out that no more than 22 were built like mine. The 2nd book I listed I found more useful.
In 2015 only 22 Stingrays were built with Velocity Yellow Tintcoat with the Brownstone leather interior.

There used to be a Website that would give you that answer. It is no longer around.
As a practical matter, it is interesting, but adds very little value. When, I sold my 1995 Torch Red Convertible, it was the only one made in that year that had a Performance Rear End. Value added, none.

My Z is kinda rare because of how it was delivered, options, etc. etc. Is it truly rare? Not really, you have to remember in terms of our Corvettes if you ordered a bright Orange Factory Stripe on your Corvette, you could be 1 of 1 according to data.. makes it the only one like it, but rare or more valuable? No. Get the Corvette you want, but don't worry about rarity.. just enjoy the drive

Reread what the original poster said. He was just trying to figure out how many were built like his. No mention of it being rare or having added value.
I look at things a little differently. If you have a car that few were built, you have a car that was not very popular when built.

I have seen people who post a letter from the museum saying something like "congratulations, I have confirmed your car is 1 of 3 in this configuration". I was wondering how they got that.
I understand this has no real value. I'm not looking for anything related to value. It's not for sale, we are just curious. Realistically those who say a "rare" combination is "unpopular", I beg to disagree. ZR1s are rare - and highly desirable. Nuf said. Beyond that, there are so many configurable options on the Vettes that almost every owner can say theirs is rare for some reason. Many tend to brag about how rare their car is... even though over 37k were built in 2014 alone.
It really only came up because we love the LRG, and rarely, if ever, see one in the wild. We went to a Corvette only car show last year and there were 125 cars but only one green. We went on a cruise with 100 other Corvettes, and ours was the only green. It's just interesting and fun to say - we're the ones in the green car, and everyone knows the car because it's unusual.
I know green didn't sell well, but when clean, it's gorgeous. And, it was a first year only color. I suspect part of the reason LRG didn't sell well is because the color swatch in the brochure looked almost black. You couldn't really see how the color would look in person, so not many buyers were interested. By the time they started choosing colors for 2015 (early 2014 or sooner), all the orders had been placed but only a few cars had been delivered. At that point, green had not been ordered often (it's not a popular color in any car, really), so they dropped it.
When we drive it, people often comment on how great the color is, and that it's a perfect match with Kalahari interior. Anyone who comments on the car for any reason definitely says something about the LRG. And we like it, so that's what matters most.

Totally get that, my buddy has his black Z wrapped in Fir Tree Green and where ever we go we get the questions:
What color is that? Is it Factory?
I've never seen one that color before....
It's became so common now that after 4-5 yrs at Corvette's Carlisle we all joke with him that were going to get a sign and put out front of it. "Its a Wrap, its called Fir Tree Green, it's Black underneath"..LOL

I can only add a couple of points to the conversation:
An earlier poster mentioned the book "All 2014-2019 Chevrolet Corvette Colors Codes & Quantities". Checking my copy there are two sets of numbers on your 2LT Kalahari interior. 343 Kalahari Leather or 344 Kalahari Suede. Another factor is if your Corvette is Z51 or not. 344 Suede Stingray - only 74, 344 Suede Z51 - 119.
The National Corvette Museum was researching these questions for several years, but I'm not sure they still have the access to GM records. And they could only do it for the previous model year. Best to call the Museum and speak with someone in the Library & Archives.
I certainly agree with your impression of the Lime Rock Green. We had two C4 convertibles in Polo Green with Light Oak interior and top, then a 2000 Dark Bowling Green with Lt Oak interior & top. We came close to buying the first LRG `14 Premier Edition that came to the Valley, but we didn't care for the Brownstone & Kalahari combination.

Unless the C7 becomes a classic. I bought my 2016 LBR Z51 off the lot. It was loaded and came with Stingray sillplates and mats.
I cant imagine anyone was willing to pay $430.00 for those two options.

it’s irrelevant. A 2013 427 corvette is rare. It’s also very collectible and can be very expensive. rare and valuable are not tied together. Some rare cars are prized some are not. Some valuable cars are rare some are not. That’s not what I was asking at all. And we aren’t car shopping. I was just curious if there’s a way to find out how many cars were made is a particular configuration. I guess I didn’t ask the question properly. Sorry!
