"THE WAVE" is Dead
At least in Phoenix it is. Took my C7 out for a long Sunday drive with the wife last weekend as the weather was perfect. On the drive, I came upon no less than a dozen or so Corvettes over several miles coming down the road in the opposite direction from a local car show. I made it a point to give them a casual wave as they drove by to acknowledge their obvious good choice in cars. There were Corvettes of multiple years with drivers of diverse age groups with windows down, tops down, postcard-perfect day. And to be clear, my wave wasn't like an awkward Forest Gump wave - maybe it should have been. But not one single wave back! I was honestly surprised. I've read about "the wave" here and read posts from people on both sides regarding the practice, so while I wasn't expecting 100% engagement, I was expecting something back. Nope, nada, not one - really not even a look to be honest which was really weird. My over/under on the response rate was way off to say the least HA!
So either I happened upon the only Corvette drivers oblivious to their surroundings and other Corvettes, or some of y'all aren't as friendly as you'd like us to think.
I guess on the bright side, I got a couple of big obnoxious revs from a clapped out 6 cylinder Mustang that passed me going in the opposite direction, so I know I wasn't invisible...

Not to worry. That group was from the Ray Charles Corvette Club. Blind folk get the thrill of driving a Corvette, taking acceleration, braking and steering direction from the passenger.

Sometimes it just happens that you don’t get a wave from other owners. Keep on waving and you’ll run across a number of owners that do wave.

Driving around Tucson I get waves pretty consistently. If you going to be at the Chandler Vette show next week if you see me I'll wave to you and all other Vette drivers.

I have not had a C8 driver wave back, other than that I get waves from all other generations.
I also get a lot of Honda drivers wanting to race from a stoplight . I just smile and wave at them too.

I waved today at two C-7 corvettes as I was returning to Augusta from Atlanta on I-20. I wave but couldn't tell if they wave back their windows were tinted to dark for me to tell. I got more waves when I had my red C-6. I did get a wave from a C-8 driver the other day and he had a big smile on his face.

After my parents retired, they moved to Missouri. When I was visiting them and driving around with Dad, I noticed that everyone would wave! People on foot, sitting on a porch, riding a bike, driving a car. Wave festival! I asked Dad how he made so many friends so quickly! He said, "I don't know them. If you don't wave back something bad might happen." Felt like we were in a parade! I like to think of Dad and wave away in his memory!
