Should I Extend my Extended Warranty?
#21
When comparing warranties there's more to it than just time, mileage and price. You also need to consider:
- Coverage - drivetrain? "like factory" ? or "everything except for these excluded items" ? And even the "bumper to bumper" ones differ on whether they cover things like emissions-related parts.
- Cap - i.e. how much they'll pay for repairs. Ideally it would be the value of the vehicle, but I've come across many which only cover as little as $5k (and the warranty costs $3k ... WTF)
- Deductible - $0, $200, etc. Per item or per visit to repair shop?
- Shop eligibility - does it have to go to a specific shop? Or merely ASE-certified techs ?
- Extras - who pays for diagnosis, towing, rental car / loss of use. Does it cover commercial use (Turo, Uber/Lyft, Pizza delivery) etc
- Transferable/cancelable?

But, those prices quoted above are beyond ridiculous. [/QUOTE]
Last January I bought a 2017 Grand Sport Z07 with 1362 miles on it. Factory warranty was long expired so I went to my Chevrolet dealer, whom I had purchased their extended warranty on a 2017 Impala and it paid for itself. I purchased a 72 month/72k miles -0- deductible bumper to bumper warranty for $2660. Even if I don't have to use it, I would also get a rebate if this happens, I at least have peace of mind if anything needs to be repaired, except for normal wear and maintenance items.

Like casinos, insurance companies pay a lot of money for predictive analytics. They are in business to make money, from your money. That said, if it was that simple no one would ever go to a casino or get insurance. Personally, I have never had an extra insurance thing pay off, you have had yours for three years, how do you feel about it now?

I buy them depending on the vehicle, I did buy one both by C5 and C7. I didn't ever buy one for my old Acuras, Honda, Toyotas.

How and where you use it would be a factor to consider. Smooth or bumpy roads, temperature extremes, snow and salt, mild mannered or aggressive driving, etc. I've just bought a 2014 and have to make the same decision. You have a big advantage of knowing your car for a few years and how much stress you put on it. If you're riding it hard and putting it away wet... If not, the warranty suppliers probably have priced it so you lose.
My mother was sold an extended warranty on a new 2000 Oldsmobile Alero she bought when she was 88 years old. They really do take advantage of people. She only drove for two more years and that was a miracle too.

I did get the extended warranty through the gm dealership last year about a month after I bought a 2016 zo6 Callaway with 12500 miles. Warranty was about 2600$ for coverage till 2026 and 60,000 miles. Looks to me the prices have gone way up! Like everything else. Used it 2 months after the car dropping a valve which they replaced the long block and Callaway supercharger. Total bill from GM was 27k! I paid 200$ deductible. Very thankful.....

Three years ago I bought a 2014 Corvette Z51 3LT M7 w/ 44k miles on it. At the time I bought a 3rd party extended warranty that was through CNA National for $3,755 for 36 months/36,000 miles and a $100 deductible. My extended warranty is up in on Feb 8 2023 and was wondering if it was worth extending it further as I plan on keeping this car effectively forever barring some major emergency which requires me to sell it. In those 3 years I have only put 22k miles on the car w/ a LA->Chicago-> LA trip included. However, this is my daily and I currently WFH, but I am looking to move jobs (LA to Chicago) so the WFH benefit may go away,
In the time since I have had the car I have only had to use the extended warranty once which was for a mag ride sensor and control module. This fix ended up only costing ~1.5k and so I lost money on the first warranty go around. I will say it was pretty seamless on getting the work done under my extended warranty though.
I have heard that the torque tubes can go on this car which slightly alarms me but at the same time if its a pretty rare thing I would probably lean towards not extending my warranty.
Here are some various options I got quoted out (all $100 deductible) and was wondering if other people think its "worth" it:
36 Mo/36k Miles - $4,885
48 Mo/36k Miles - $5,325
60 Mo/36k Miles - $6,080
60 Mo/42k Miles - $6,355

Can anyone tell me if this statement sounds like Torque Tube could be not covered? When Torque tubes fail, is it always the internal part? Thanks. This statement is from Endurance Warranty
DRIVE AXLE ASSEMBLY: (Front and Rear) Drive Axle Case; All Internally Lubricated Parts contained within the Drive Axle; Locking Hubs; Drive Shafts; Center Support Bearings; Universal Joints; Constant Velocity Joints; Axle Bearings; Four-Wheel Drive Actuator; and Differential Cover. (The drive axle housing is only covered if damaged by the Breakdown of an internally lubricated part).

Carchex just quoted me the following:
Titanium plan ( only avail monthly for my car) 119.99/mo 10K per month limit ( every month)no contract Titanium must be month to month
Platinum plan 3 yr/100,000 $3893
4 yr/100,000 $5300
I was told dash not covered but not sure Alicia knew for sure
I did not pick on yet. Still have to contact Endurance. I mentioned in an earlier post I am not eligible for the GM plan as its 2016 and newer.

That may be true. I am simply sharing my info for the OP ( or anyone else) to compare to their own quotes. It's obvious there are two camps and I chose mine. helps me sleep, and the 140/month is easier for me to deal with then a 7K ( or more) expense. It's not just torque tube, it's engines with AFM/DFM lifter issues etc. I deal with this with my Tahoe as well.

People seem to forget we're dealing with a GM product here! 🤨... We know GM parts gonna fail and break, it's Not our first rodeo with them!... Buying a used Corvette most likely insures the first guy has paid for those busted parts and expensive labor. We've all been reading this forum and not stupid!

I think there are a lot of new C7 owners who worry a lot about the cost if something breaks, which ends up ruining the experience of owning a Corvette. I'd by lying if I said I hadn't thought about it myself.
