Default 2017 brake pads

so a few days ago i go into NAPA to order pads for my grand sport, I wanted the best so i would get very little dust. cost was $171.34 thought this was a little high but i figured you get what you pay for.they had to order them from Jacksonville fl. to where i live Milton fl. so i picked them up yesterday. did not have any thing planed today so jacked up the front wheel. ( now keep in mind i,am 84) took tire off remover the 2 pins, and bolt. took both pads out laid them on the floor. went to my work bench opened up both brake pad box,s there are not the right shoes. now i,am mad, the salesman was telling me when i purchased the pads how much he knew about vettes which i soon could tell was all BS so i took the pads back to the same salesman he said to me do you want me to TRY, try was the question I said no refund the money to my debit card, you know the computer made the error, I replied the computer is only as smart as the person entering the info I thought all the employes behind the counter were going to split a gut laughing

Kudos to you . . . I hope I'm still working on my cars when I'm 84!!! Working with the counter guys can be challenging. GS/Z06 pads (and rotors) are expensive compared with non-performance cars.

Some popular low dust pads for vettes are Carbotech, PowerStop and Hawk. I use the Carbotech 1521 pads for street on my '17 GS.

Good luck with your pad replacement. Too bad the counter person at NAPA didn't get it right for you the first time.

[QUOTE=Edward Ackley;1606039897] where i live Milton fl.

Edward, I live in Pace, although it sounds like you are pretty capable of working on your vette, if you ever need help tinkering with it, I would be more than happy to lend a hand and hear some of the experiences that you have had. I'm a 30 year retired veteran. I just recently installed a supercharger on my 2017 Stingray and now I'm about to tackle the installation of long tube headers and X-Pipe. Have a Merry Christmas!

Ed, just for reference, I have had Carbotech 1521's on my '15 Coupe for 80+K miles and here are a couple of facts; they dust about 10% of the Z51 (same as GS) OEM pads. They are super easy on the rotors but on the pricey side at $550 for all four corners (that's what I paid in '15). Power Stop "Z26 Street Warrior" are a lot less money and dust very little (next to hardly at all). As for rotor wear; they do seem to wear more than my 1521's but probably not enough to worry about keeping your car for 200K mile or so.

Hope this helps, both pads work very well in stopping as the car as well at the OEM pads. You might find the initial grip (peddle feel) will be higher with the OEM pads but overall stopping distance is not noticeably different.

I had her caddy and my ram truck plus the vette. got thinking even at 84 you dont look like you belong in a black caddy. so i sold my vette in 3 hours started searching for what i really wanted , being i had the money. it had to be a C7 artic white red interior found a stingray in north carolina he was hard to deal with, than found this 17 grand sport way up in Arkansas at a chev dealer . we talked a few min. and said sold give me 3 days to transfer funds and i will be there sure love this car. thanks for the offer i live in venture estates bagdad

I just took a look at the NAPA online ordering system and it looks like it would be difficult to get the correct brake pads. When I configured the filters for a GS there was one set of semi-metallic pads offered that had the electrical sensors that are used with the CCM brake cars. However, they won't work on non-CCM vehicles as they are the wrong size and don't have the proper wear sensors. Of course, you wouldn't want to put those pads on a CCM brake car either as they are semi-metallic pads that would more than likely ruin a $2000 ceramic rotor within a few miles.

Most of the confusion comes about due to the person that programmed the database they use and didn't understand the different types of brakes that are stock on Corvettes, the types of brake pads, and the rotor configurations available. Even using Amazon you have to be very careful when ordering brake parts for a C7. If you don't know the secret info from GM you may very well get the wrong parts from Amazon.

I put Powerstop Ceramic pads on my 2017 Z-51.

I have been very pleased with them.

I wish you the best.

Have you driven your car in the rain with the Carbotech's or right after you've washed your car?

Yes, but never noticed decreased braking. When driving in rain, I'm more concerned with not doing 360* spin due to big tires. I have noticed lack of stopping when in triple digits, but that is on track doing "Touring" laps (130-150 mph). So if I know I'm doing those speeds, I just use XP8/XP10 track pads. The XP pads perform great and take a lot of abuse during HPDEs.

I have NEVER felt unsafe with 1521s.

+1 for Carbotech 1521 pads! I have a ‘15 Coupe Z51 and the brake dust from the OEM pads drove me nuts. 2 years ago, I switched out with the Carbotech pads and I love ‘em. I can’t find any brake dust, they’re completely quiet, and stopping performance is excellent. Worth every nickel! I don’t track my car (just spirited driving on twistys). Carbotech clearly tells you these are NOT for track use, by the way.

Save the wave,
