How does one get these updates? Do they have to be done at dealers?

Oh, I see, USB.

Why these cost money, at all, or, something more like $9.99 is insane to me.

Another update?

What?

I just did one a year or two ago, and that was supposed to be "the last one available" for my 2017 Z06.

What's going on here?

Yes, with CarPlay and Android Auto equipped in most cars these days the factory Nav systems are subpar and almost obsolete. These updates should definitely not cost $100, but the market will determine that I guess.

That is not necessarily correct!

From another thread on the subject:

"To be honest, the latest version GM Navigation is quite useful. It gives you traffic conditions, alternate routes, does not need cell service to work, and allows you to see the directional arrow and a bar that shows you how many feet to your, turn, in the HUD and the center gauge. This is a lot more useful than taking your eys off the road to look at a small phone screen, when you have a road clearance of 2 1/2"!"

It is additionally helpful if you are in a Roadster with the top down. Half the time, I cannot see a screen because of the sun and the wind makes it hard to hear! I never have a problem seeing the HUD or the center gauge.

I have gotten the last two updates and each one was an imptovement over the last. I will also get the new one.

I have WAZE, Android Auto, and Escort Live. I do not use them except for music on Android Auto. Because of that, I have missed a 50' garden hose that fell off a truck, lots of FOD, and numerous pot holes! That hose would have severely damaged my front end.

I'm sure I will be getting something in the mail about the latest Nav release. I upgraded mine in 2019 and yes, it did make a difference from the original set of maps. May do it again this year.

Can you please mail me your USB since you no longer need it?

The USB is married to one VIN, so it cannot be used on another car.

I will patiently wait for mine, and then make an educated decision.

I never saw anything official from GM about a final update, but some people (like me) speculated that last year's might be the final because that was how long they kept making updates for the C6 after production ended.
Certainly the updates are incredibly overpriced, but we find the car system useful enough that we get updates. And use Waze also.
Since the updates are VIN-specific like Flame Red mentioned, if you wait until they stop making them then you're screwed, no way to use a different update or pirate one. And they usually don't announce a date when they'll run out of the current update, you'll just see on their site that no update is available for you car; and you don't know if that's just until next year's update comes out, or forever.
GM customer service at its finest.

I used the USB Port in the Cubby Hole, both times I updated mine.

If you travel in areas with a lot of new roads, the updates are worthwhile. Note that they tend to lag a bit, so it's likely recent road changes may still not be included.

You used the OP's link, which was for a 2017. That SHOULD work, as the part numbers are identical. (The VIN is not used to verify MY but, rather, to tie the product license to your vehicle.) To be sure, start from the beginning, that requires you to enter your own vehicle and MY.

My solution. I download off-line maps on my android when I go in spotty areas. No need for GM. No need for cell service.
Works like a charm.

OK...I just checked the VIN for my 2014 Convertible and the site says I'm good. I just ordered the update and will report back as to how it works out once I receive and install.

I'm kind of excited about this since I can't use Android Auto in my '14 without buy over $1200 of modules and installing them. My car must have the original programming from the factory. Navigation doesn't show many of the areas around where I live (Ocala, FL) including the neighborhood where we live. (Which didn't exist 5 years ago !!) This area has grown so quickly over the past 5~7 years that even Google Earth doesn't show my house and it was built 4 years ago !!

Fingers crossed !!
