Default New owner maintenance cost estimate..

I just purchased and got delivered a 2014 Corvette Z51 3LT a few hours ago. Been watching YouTube videos on the car and configuration of dash and such.

However, since there is no record of maintenance on the car with 14.2k miles on it, and no sticker on car, don’t know when the last oil change was done. Thinking of an oil change at the dealership. What is the typical cost of an oil change?

Second, the tires are original but the guy at the dealership says, they are okay, that I should change into all seasons after the summer (I live in the Midwest (St. Louis).

Third, for mostly city driving, what mode do you guys drive in? Eco or Tour?

there will be more questions if I can’t find answers on the internet. Thanks for the patience. Will put up pictures tomorrow.

The Oil Life Monitor should show you when the next oil change is due. If the tires are indeed 8 years old it's time to get new ones. My '14 has always been in Sport mode since I bought it new and I use the paddle shifters. That keeps it out of AFM (4 cylinder mode) since I don't care about mileage, even though it gets 27-28 mpg.

Go to the Michelin Web site for tire replacement guidelines. Do not try any sort of preformance driving til you do. I would be replacing tires especifally if planning any type of spirited driving. Enjoy your car safely.

Never run in eco mode. That makes your engine run on 4 cylinders. WE WANT PICS! Enjoy your new corvette!

My recommendations:
Change the oil & filter, then you will know for sure it is done. Be sure to re-set the Oil Life Monitor.
Change the coolant. May not be necessary, but why not start with fresh fluids.
Change the rear differential fluid...just because.
New tires ASAP! 8 year-old tires have begun to harden and could lose traction in an instant. Once these cars go sideways it's too late to think about new tires.
Tour or Sport mode, never Eco.

Kind of my standard procedure when getting a new (used) vehicle... keep in mind, I do all the work myself so it saves considerable $$
1) Change engine oil & filter.
2) Change trans fluid and rear diff fluid.
3) Change coolant.
4) Change cabin air filter and engine air filter.
5) Change brake fluid and clutch fluid (if applicable).
6) If the tires are OE and that old, change them. I don't trust tires past 6+ years on a high performance vehicle.
7) Battery... anything over about 4-5 years you're on borrowed time, and a weak battery can cause all sorts of issues.
8) Change wiper blades... cuz no one ever seems to.
9) While doing the above, visually check everything over. Not unusual to find the serpentine belt needs changing, and/or the thermostat if the engine is over-cooling.
Tires will be the biggest hit, then the battery. The rest of the stuff is a few hundred $$ but well worth it to do and know for sure where you stand.

I got mine used from a dealer and the engine oil was set to 100%, but I checked the oil and it was super dark so I got it changed. Make sure you take a look at it before only relying on the meter.

Thanks guys. I was going to go by just the monitor but now, I will have them do an oil and filter change IF I decide to keep it! I am allowed to return it within 7 days.

My wife saw the car when she returned home from work a few minutes ago but she mentioned something that floored me. She said “You think you can park that car in those cheap motel parking lots in backwoods little towns on one of your long road trips?”

I always take long, 2000+ mile road trips, stopping in little towns, sleeping in little motels. However, even if I move a level or two up and stay in, I’d probably worry a lot…

^^^
I wouldn't worry too much. Park where there are lights. Half of the newer higher end F-150s are worth more than a Stingray and trucks are more desirable to steal.

My wife and I have taken 4 long road trips in our '14; never had a problem with parking at 2 star hotels. Heck, one even let us pull our car under their front door awning (can't remember the right word right now) when severe weather with hail and possible wind damage was coming through the area. Backwoods little towns are your favorite friends!

As far as maintenance goes, everything mentioned I would do, but on a schedule if you don't want to get everything done at once (or want to do some work yourself). EXCEPT the tires. You can check the date codes, but a lot of '14s were built in late '13, so the tires are probably 9 years old or close to it. I'd get those changed out ASAP.

Oh, and drive your baby! Worst thing in the world (unless you want to make it a show car) is to leave it sitting.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I don't think anyone answered this but an oil change at my dealership is 155.00.

I just editied my post because I think I got off track. Regarding maintenance, change all the fluids and filters and drive the **** out of it. Don't be worried about parking it anywhere. That's what insurance is for.

Oh lord... get new tires, NOW; plus, do the same with the oil and filter. Cost is whatever it is at GM dealerships, if that's the route you plan on taking. Or, do it yourself. All the best, and ENJOY!

(btw, my 21-year old C5 [which I still have] went back to the dealership 4-times for piddly warranty work and came back each time with something scratched or otherwise messed-up requiring more "service." Never gone back since. My 5-year old C7 has NEVER been in a dealership since I drove it out of Kerbeck's; and, with any degree of luck it will never see another while I'm driving it)

Follow what the oil life monitor says for when to change the oil. However if you have no records of any maintenance performed, have the oil changed now for peace of mind. I would also co sided getting the coolant changed since that was supposed to be done at the 5 year mark (or 100K miles).

As for the tires, I would get them changed soon, and recommend some all seasons. I am in mid-Missouri and went with Michelin A/S 3+ ZPs on my car and have been pleased. They are up to the 4+ version now.

I have always run my car in Sport mode. Have never used any of the other modes on the car.

Whats the mileage on the car. Tires could have been changed already. Check the date codes first before buying new. Like already said, if 6 years or older change them.

I'd estimate $150 for a dealer oil change and inspection. If you did not buy from a chevy dealer maybe worth have one inspect it (or if you did, take it to another dealer), since you have 7 days to return it.
SPORT mode all the time for me.

Sounds to me like you are denying yourself the pleasure of owning and driving a Corvette worrying about what MIGHT happen. That's what insurance is for.
Only you can decide to let your fears go and enjoy the car or send it back and forget this dream.
