Default Would You Live On A Gravel Road?

I'm in the market for a semi-rural home. Has to have a nice shop on a reasonable amount of acreage. No pesky HOA / CCRs so I can store my RV with no hassles.

It seems like the candidates that check most of the boxes have up to two miles of gravel road to get there.

Does anyone live that way? Any tips?

I've lived on an acreage for 36 years now where six generations of my family have lived. I drive two and a half miles on gravel roads to get to a blacktop. It takes me around 15-20 minutes in the corvettes because I don't want rock chops anywhere. XL splash guards and side skirts REALLY help with this.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have privacy, plenty of land to run around on and "traffic" if you can call it that is minimal. I'm almost done with a new house build (about 4400 sq ft) with a two car attached garage, a free standing two car garage, three car garage and a 1700 sq ft insulated/heated shop. I'm going to add a two post hoist in the shop next year.

When I croak, hopefully not for quite a while yet, the kids are going to sell the place. I really hope a mechanic/gearhead/tinkerer gets the acreage. He'll have a hell of a good time.

I only drive my corvette on pavement. No dirt or gravel roads.

Living that rural has never been a dream of mine, car stuff aside. I'm more of a city slicker for sure.

i live on one (about 1/8 miles to pavement). I have dust control put on each year. It is a win win. Far enough off pavement to not hear all the trucks going by LOL I do drive slow on the road to avoid damage

Only you know what is important to you and what trade-offs you are willing to make.

I am a rural mail carrier. No way on Gods green earth would I live on a gravel road. I don't know where Bugtussle is, but if you have inclement weather, yours will be the last to be plowed out, every car that goes past will kick up a cloud and everything you own will be covered in dust during the warm months. Your Corvette will NEVER be clean again. It gets, goes, and stays EVERYWHERE. Every nook, every cranny. No amount of polishing will make up for the drive down that gravel road. Even if you do 2.7 mph, the guy passing you will throw it up.

If those things don't matter much to you and the house ticks all the boxes and is a good deal, then you will be happy. Best of luck.

If I knew for sure I wouldn't ask other folks' opinion.

I drive 100 feet of gravel now from the road to the garage...

Then deciding for you, do not do it. Or do it.

We live in an area that has a lot of agriculture. The Vette is in the garage. It take an average of three to four days after a wash before any car parked outside looks like a derelict. So, no!

No. That was one of the thinks I told my real estate agent when searching for a new home.

Lived on a gravel road for 8 years. No Vette at the time but I did have a 75 Camaro Pro Street and an 80 El Camino in the garage. They always had dust on and in them and the house was always dusty inside even though we kept the windows and doors shut. We have been living in a paved rural subdivision for the past 23 years and will never go back to gravel.

Man I get it...but I wouldn’t. Not just bc of the vette but bc of my other cars too. I wouldn’t even have any of my driveway gravel
