Default Weird spots on 8” infotainment screen

Hi all,
See pic as well, I recently purchased a 2017 GSCE. I was cleaning up the interior for the first time the other day, went to clean the screen with a very popular chemical guys interior cleaner that even says on the bottle that it’s good for screens. Anyway, I wiped it like once or twice and these two spots appeared. Started out small and got bigger the more I tried to wipe them away. I have no clue. Is it some sort of coating on the screen that is coming off? Anyone else seen this? Thanks.

Anyone seen spots like these?

Honestly, I have not seen spots like that on the infotainment screen. I only use a clean microfiber towel to wipe my infotainment screen off. I do hope that your screen has not been damaged by using the cleaner on it.

There is an anti-glare coating that will wear off if you use the wrong cleaners. When we picked up my wife's car (used), it was like that. I polished the screen to remove the coating, altogether.

Sorry that happened, man I'd be pissed using a recommended cleaner.

I’ve seen weird things like that on my TV, when the LCD panel becomes delaminated. There is no fix for that, other than replacing the panel. You can’t clean it.

Default Favorite Spots ?

I've noticed the same thing on my '19, they appear at the few spots I touch the most.
As mentioned, it is an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare
I believe it is a combination of abrasion from your fingertips, causing the coating to wear thru in small areas, then enlarging as you used a cleaner ( doesn't have to be abrasive to enlarge the damaged area).
I thought about applying a screen protector to mask the change in sheen, but I like the idea of removing the coating altogether then applying the screen protector.

@dwwalker14335 - what did you use to to polish the coating off?
Thank you

Thanks to all the reply’s. I used Chemical Guys Total Interior cleaner and protectant. I’ve been using it for years on other cars with no issues, though nothing close to 5 yrs old like my vette. Also, this happened the very first time I used the cleaner. So, as far as I know, the spots weren’t there for 5 years, I clean the screen one time and they pop up. Going to try the white vinegar route to remove the rest of the anti glare and then put an anti glare screen protector on. See how that goes.

The coating will come off on spots you hit commonly on the screen. I used a polishing compound and microfiber to polish the screen to a even patina. Took my time, let the polish work (do not push hard) and did it by hand. Took about 20 minutes or so. When the screen was on, it was not too bad but in direct sunlight or when the screen was off, it was quite noticeable.

Screen wear spots

Cleaned up after polish.

You could try applying one of these screen protectors, Tuff Protect Screen Protecters , that may camouflage the spots.

Good info, maybe some folks who have had no damage yet may want to invest in a screen protector to avoid future problems?

any particular polish you used? Mine has permanent spots already so i dont mind removing the coating. Would light cutting compound work?

Nothing in particular. The one I used was Meguiar's Clear Coat Safe polishing compound. Nothing aggressive.

I noticed a small spot where I touch the most.. no harsh cleaners ever. I took advice above polished screen and applied a glass screen protector. The shinier glass looks much clearer and colors seem better. I had top off and sun actually glared less than the OEM anti-glare coating did. That seems strange to me. Good post though, glad I caught mine early. Thanks

link to the glass protection you bought? I tried one on another car and it was impossible to remove if I needed to lift it to clear an air bubble. The fit had no tolerance lol.

As posted above I used these guys, Tuff Protect Screen Protecters , one thing that is nice about them is they send two protective covers, in case you wreck one, like I did, When I installed the first one, somehow I did not get it applied properly and when I pulled the second layer off after installing it the screen protector lifted.
These are an exact fit, not much room for error, but they work very well.

Amazon Amazon

Not gonna lie tho' first one cracked.. second one's a charm. I really like the glass.. makes it look better for sure The bottom of our screens not as simple as a nice flat tablet... can be tricky. Glass cleans soooo easy now.. this post came in quite handy
