Would you buy this car?
I’m looking at a 2014 C7. In the car fax I see that at 4 years they replaced the cooling system. Then a few thousand miles they replaced a head gasket. Next was the gauge cluster. I feel like they were chasing a cooling problem. Then at 31k miles the engine was replaced. Since the engine was replaced, no more issues. That’s been about 2 years and 13k miles.
Do these sound like red flags and I should walk away? Or does it mean there were new model blues and now the kinks are worked out. How common is an engine replacement? Presumably this was all done under warranty. Should I get extended warranty?

2014 didn’t have “new model blues.” It may well be the most reliable year C7, mainly because it didn’t have the A8 trans. My ‘14 with more miles has had one coil pack replaced - period. I’d run away from that one unless it’s dirt cheap, and even then I’m not sure I’d want it.

It may be fine, but NOT for me. With no real history/docs for the car, no purchase on my part... period. Used cars are always a risk, sports/performance multiply so.

Fly, run, walk or crawl away from that. I'd say "unless it is stupid cheap" but it probably won't be in this market with spring around the corner so if it is that cheap, you probably can't afford it and what comes with it. I wouldn't settle for anything under a 16 but that is me so that is 2 strikes.

I forgot to mention that after a test drive, I identified that it had a faulty mag ride shock. So they are currently replacing that one. While waiting on that repair is when I started looking into the history of the car. Sounds like a problem car that I should avoid. No, it’s not selling crazy cheap. Right in line with the market on price.

Too much repair history for me, especially at a market price. There should be a number of cars out there with no negative history - so I would say keep on looking.

Definitely keep looking. Be patient you’ll eventually find something you like and you won’t have to worry so much as what’s going to break next. Good luck with your decision and best of luck.

If the price was a bargain maybe, but you say it is in line with comparable year cars, I say move on to the next one

No reason to even consider this C7 IMO, even if the price is tempting. It cost too much to have them repaired to gamble on this risk.

Thanks, everyone! That's why I joined this group, and will continue my search rather than buy this one.
I look forward to paying the group back for this big assist!

If you like the Android Auto or whatever the Apple equivalent is, don't settle for a 14 or a 15. 16 and up.
