2016 Base model Corvette questions
I purchased a 2016 Stingray base model 10 days ago. I have never had a C7 before so this is all new to me. It has 20 k miles. I have been reading my owners manual, but still have some questions.
Is my engine wet or dry sump? How many quarts to fill on an oil change?
What do the colored bands that appear above my tach mean? I think they are red and yellow.
Is there a service manual for this car other than the factory shop manuals?
Thank you

If it's a base W/O the Z51 package it's a wet sump.
Yellow above the tach is a warning, you're getting close, red means back off!

Under hood diagrams of wet and dry sump engines are in your owner's manual!
If the oil fill cap is on the left side of the engine - wet sump. 7.0 qts, 1 drain plug. Oil level check procedure is normal.
If the oil fill cap and dipstick are on a tank against the right fender - dry sump. Fill with 9 qt and adjust from there (manual says 9.8 qt). 2 oil drain plugs.
OIL LEVEL CHECK PROCEDURE WITH DRY SUMP:
1. To obtain an accurate engine
oil level reading, warm up the
engine to at least 80 °C (175 °
F). Cold oil will not give a
correct oil level reading.
2. Once the engine is warm, turn
off the engine. Checking the oil
while the engine is running will
result in an incorrect oil level
reading.
3. Check the oil level between
five and 10 minutes after the
engine is shut down.
There are links to online manuals up in the Sticky Threads section of C7 General - not currently working for some reason.
Try setting up an account on the Chevy site:
https://www.chevrolet.com/support/ve...manuals-guides
or add the My Chevrolt app to your phone or tablet.
The yellow & red bands on the tach are "advisory" rpm limits and change as the engine warms up. They should go to normal positions when coolant gets up to 176 F. (They also stay low during break in until 500 miles).

Drifting
Judging by the looks of your car (namely the wheels), it is most likely a non-Z51 Stingray - wet sump oil system. For a 2014 to 2017 Stingray, the 'base' car will have 19" rims in the back and 18" in the front. The Stingray with a Z-51 package (dry sump) will have 20" wheels in the rear and 19" in the front. If you have a Z-51 car, the rear spoiler will be slightly larger as well (but some owners of non-Z51 cars ordered theirs with the bigger spoiler).
To make things more confusing, GM changed ALL Corvettes over to 20" rear & 19" front wheels beginning with the 2018 model year. As someone else said, look for the location of the oil filler under the hood. If you go underneath the car, a Z-51 Stingray will have TWO drain plugs instead of just one. My 2017 Stingray is a non-Z51 car (wet sump) and it has just one drain plug. The capacity is 7 quarts (including filter) and changing the oil is relatively easy. The oil filter hangs vertically right next to where the drain plug is. I use a set of Race Ramps - the long ones - which makes the job a snap.
Good luck with your 2016 Stingray! The Long Beach Red is a very pretty color and will turn heads wherever you go. Other commenters about the "color bands" on the outside of the tachometer are correct. The yellow and red will probably move higher up (to the right) as your car warms up. Best to drive it easy until the thermostat opens and the temperature gauge begins to move upward. The Corvette is certainly a performance car, but will still give you many years of great reliable driving if you take proper care of it.
Save the wave!!

Base models are wet sump, so just a normal oiling system. A single drain plug in the pan and a filter as you would experience with just about any other vehicle. Including the filter, the system holds 7 quarts.
While the manual and the oil filter cap will recommend synthetic 5W-30, Chevy recently recommended 0W-40 Mobil 1 ESP oil. I've found Summit Racing or Rock Auto have the best prices.
See why I like your color?

Correct.
In cold weather, the coolant can get to 176' when the oil is still pretty cold. The ways to configure your instruments are complicated, but I leave my little "pocket" gauges displaying oil pressure and oil temp, go easy on the throttle until oil temp is at least 150' and preferably 175'.
Our 2017 is also Long Beach Red, we had to hunt around to get that color with the options we wanted, but it was worth the effort.
Enjoy!
