10qts and a PF64 filter for $94... I always buy from Summit before Amazon or Walmart.

I might do that. Might be helpful to see what happens at the end of the year with the oil analysis. I'm curious to see if it lasts longer than the 5W30. I have no doubt that 0W40 ESP is better. Whether it is significantly better, IDK and nobody has been able to say how much better.

Here are some analyses results showing multiple OCIs of both the 5w30 and 0w40, with some hard driving. The 5w30 shears down to a 20 by the end of the OCI. The 0w40 is a 30 at the end of its OCI. So it does stay a grade thicker.

Interesting. What is your thought on it having about 1900 miles less on the 0W40 ESP?

I understood it as both oils were tracked so that should even it out.

I was assuming he followed the rules of not tracking with 5w30. Either way, we'll see how your results compare.

I'll search BITOG for some other UOAs on C7s.

Default C7 oil

This was to be my first self oil change. The dealer change out the 5w-30 oil cap to 0w-40 ( did not inform me) and I was just making sure the 5w-30 was ok. Since reading the numerous posts on oil, I see from the factory, 5w-30 was what it came with.
Thanks to all for the replies and helpful data.

unless your driving your C7 in well below freezing temperatures you don't "need" the 0W stuff. Same on the high end, unless you are tracking you don't "need" the 40 rating. Which is why the 5W-30 is fine for street driven C7s.

How far below 32 F would you say?

Like below 0. There was data someone posted here or BITOG that actually showed the ESP 0w40 was thicker than the M1 5w30 at 32 F. Not significantly.

When the M1 rebates start every year you can plan on a heads-up thread opening soon thereafter, so just keep an eye out. They usually start on April 1st and go 'til Sept 31st. I'll be watching myself, as I'm down to one jug now, and I'm feeding two vehicles, my C7 and a truck with the same oil.

Thanks for sharing! Interesting data!

This is a quote from Tadge, our Corvette's lead design engineer. It's not quantifiable data and it's certainly dependent on the individual's weather conditions and style of driving, but based on what he says, I use the 0-40. The 0-40 oil clearly offers broader protection perimeters. If you never operate your car outside those perimeters, then I doubt it helps. I think I heard on another interview somewhere (I couldn't locate it) Tadge mentioning below 40 degrees was where 0-40 began to add some added protection over the standard fill.
Tadge answered:
Yes, the new Mobil1 OW40 Dexos 2 oil (Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40) is also the recommended oil for all C7's prior to 2019. This oil was specifically developed to meet all of GM's performance requirements during engine dyno testing, vehicle road testing and performance track testing including the 2014-2018 Corvettes (all models). The Multi-grade Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 synthetic motor oil has many benefits including exceptional fast oil flow at startup along with low temperature pump-ability and exceptional viscosity/performance characteristics at high-temperature and high-RPM operating conditions. We are still refining our recommendations for the LT5 in the upcoming ZR1, so they may differ.

OP, being in New Braunfels you can check online inventory for O'Reillys and Advance Auto Parts near you. I live in Pflugerville and found the ESP 0w40 listed in stock at a few stores around me when I was looking.

Since I have not tracked my 16 Z51 I put Dexos 5w30 in mine because it was available at Costco for a great price. If I get a chance to track it then I'll switch oil prior.

When I put the new oil in the tank, I noticed that on the lid on the oil tank said 5-30 dexos on it, so even though I would have liked to had 0-40 weight, felt okay using the 5-30 weight since I guess that's what it came with from the factory. Bought 2 ea. 5 gal jugs at Walmart for $19.95 ea. The only oil available in 0w-40 weight when I bought mine was the European formula and I had read on the Forum not to use it.
I use 5-30 all the time. No problems.

I'll let you know by late 2022 when I run an oil analysis on both oils. That will determine if it is really "No problems" or "No problems I guess".

Been using it in my Vette for a lot of years, no problems. Change oil when recommended.
