C7 coupe trunk carpet problems
I can't figure out how the trunk carpet should work on my base model 2016 coupe. We had to take the battery out for testing and it seems like a task to hold the carpet up out of the way. The storage box on the left side seems to want the carpet to stay put. On the right side the underlay of the carpet is cracked from the original owner lifting the corner to get at the battery. Am I missing something here?

Although it can be done carefully without this, one solution is to first remove the panel on the inside of the wheel well. Once up, a bungee cord or some other device can be used to keep the carpet up enough to access the battery.

For such a well-engineered car, that battery cover/access is bush league. I can understand reducing the cost, but that one is absolutely ridiculous. My carpet has a small tear in that area from a dealership accessing the battery compartment but keep it under control with a small strip of black two-sided velcro.

The Design group at C7 must have been not so experienced in the real world.... and the Inexperienced group of Design Checkers at there should have spent more time checking part removal aspect of the final battery placement design... (can a tech get the battery out of its placement location) This kind of error with the finnished product screams design failure .. the kind of engineering mistakes a good design group should be aware of and find at design review long before the customer finds himself backed into a frustrating frigin corner! Look what you've caused!

I get it
Always changed my own batteries in my C5 and C6's but when I saw the hassle with the C7 it was to my trusty Vette mechanic, Mark, in Olympia, WA and even he saw it as more work than necessary (without damaging anything around it).......

You can avoid tearing the corner of the carpet by first pulling the carpet to the left. That moves the right side edge from under the inner quarter panel. Then you can peel the carpet diagonally forward to access the battery and the rear electrical center. No need to remove it from around the left side storage cubby.

Our trunk carpet is undamaged, but we installed a Lloyd's trunk mat in gray.
No worries about damaged original carpet.
Much better quality than original carpet.
Makes the trunk brighter, and small objects easier to find at night.
Conceals the rear cubby.
Easily removed for cleaning.
If we go to carry something in the trunk that might be damp or dirty, we flip the Lloyd's over so the rubber backing is up.
When finished, clean the backing if necessary and reinstall.

The carpeting is annoyingly cheep and cheesy.

Been there done that. Also have a mat in the back (OEM) that hides that mess.
It’s not carpet, it’s fuzzy brittle cardboard!!
