Default Removing aftermarket spoiler

Can an aftermarket spoiler be safely removed without damage to the car?

Never seen that monstrosity before. Most aftermarket spoilers will use the stock mounting holes. So you should be able to put a Z51 spoiler in its place.

It's all a guess until you remove it. But replacing it with an OEM would probably hide any issues. Sjw91 probably has it right......

Thanks. The more I look at it the worse it looks...making me rethink putting in an offer on this car.

Removing it shouldn't damage anything. Whether they drilled additional holes to install it, and whether it's rubbed the paint underneath, are the questions you can't answer until you remove it.

That is what concerns me,.., holes. I am not a big guy on spoilers, to begin with, and this one is a monster.

Not all spoilers are created equal. There are definitely holes under that, but you can replace it with something else and not see the holes. I certainly wouldn't back out of a deal because of it. Here's what I put on mine, which is from GM:

I would pass on this one. With current prices on used cars, it's best to wait for exactly what you want.

Unless the dealer removes it I think I will pass on this car.

Make it part of the deal. It doesn't cost the dealer much to replace it.

Make replacement a part of the deal... If they refuse, then decide buy or pass. I personally would not want the spoiler. YMMV.

I'm talking with the dealer now about the spoiler. If they won't replace it I am going to pass.

Also just realized the rear diffuser is aftermarket too.

And I have a problem with the name of the dealer. BMW cars should be called "Bimmers". Their motorcycles are called "Beemers".

Yup. A huge improvement over the stock diffuser.

Replacing a spoiler is easy. Replacing a diffuser is a PITA. I've done both on mine.

Hmmm. sounds like there are a few aftermarket add ons. I'm not sure what a diffuser is, but I suspect it is the shiny black around the license plate.

Yup, it's the large black piece on the lower rear of the car. Do you know if it's painted or carbon fiber on the car you're looking at?

Aftermarket doesn't mean bad BTW.

They sent e a closeup video and the spoiler is carbon fiber and very well lined up with the natural lines of the trunk deck. It just looks so big to me

That's an expensive part! If the diffuser is also carbon fiber, which is way more expensive, I'd keep the spoiler that's on it. You may find you like it and, if you don't, it can be replaced later for not a lot of money - and you can probably sell the CF spoiler to pay for the replacement.
