Default Would you use these used brake pads?

Long time lurker and reader. Could not find information on topic.

Stock Z06 Brembo Pads

Bought these lightly used brake pads off a forum member here for my Grand Sport, and they appear to have some unusual damage. Looks like they were ground down on the corners, as if drug across the pavement or something. Possibly he damaged them when trying to remove them. I only took pictures of the worst ones.

First instinct was not to use them, am I being overly cautious? Does this damage compromise function of the pad?

I don’t want to throw them away if there is no problem with them, but just seeing if anyone else would throw up a red flag. They are in otherwise good shape.

Thanks!

Do all the pads have that bevel? I’ve bought several used set to use on my Gen5 Camaro without any issues an I’d say use them they’ll wear to your car without issue.

That's mostly cosmetic in my opinion. Bevels are normal. Looks like a lot of pad left. Just bed them and they should be fine. If it bugs you, a like-new set can be bought here for around $100.

From what I see, I would use the pads. Still plenty of material left.

As said above, the bevels are perfectly normal. Other scuffing, not so much.

Definitely safe to use though.

Thanks for replying everyone. I know the perfect bevels on the sides are part of the design of the pad. I’m concerned about the damage on the portion of the pad facing the hub. The medial surface, if you will. Thanks for looking guys.

Not sure with the Vette pads, when I checked the pads on my other cars and trucks when they had that glazed look I would "carefully " run them on a piece of 100 grit sand paper to scuff the shiny glaze off. CAUTION, !!! WEAR A MASK AND PLASTIC GLOVES.

I don't see a problem with them. I wouldn't sand them since some sandpaper can contaminate brake pads. Just bed them in like any other pad and you will be fine. If you are going from stock pads to these stock pads you should already have a transfer layer on the rotor so you may not have to worry about bedding the pads.

I would NOT, nor have I ever used any USED brake pads, and wouldn't think of starting now. Think about it... what single part is more important to you and your loved-ones safety? Now, go buy new and forget about it. All the best.

There is a ton of material left on those pads. No issue of safety using them. I think mine look worse after 4 track sessions and 7k miles but I have 75% of that material left and did a 3 hr session yesterday on them.

I agree, why use them? To save a few dollars on maintaining a safety component on a $80,000 ultra-high performance sportcars? Makes no sense to me.

I owned/operated a chain of auto parts store for 16 years and bought/sold/warrantied probably over a million sets of disc pads and have seen plenty of failures where there was an abundance of material left, at least prior to them coming apart.

We get a lot of brembo z06 pads around locally due to dusting issues. A fellow z06 owner who exclusively tracks his car regularly picks these up and burns though them every few months due to him pushing 800whp and being hard on brake use.
I inspect mine after track days to guage how much material I have left and my beveled edges never looked pristine since I've owned the car.

You get failures of new parts randomly too. It's a statistical failure rate that can happen but if these came off a car where the owner was sick of dusting issues, odds are good they are fine.

Do any of y'all know what brand and compound are the OE pads that Chevy put on the '18-'19 Grand Sport & ZO6s with the iron rotors? Or, can you tell me what brand & compound are in the box of GM specified replacement pads, which I believe is p/n 25940447 for front & 22847818 rear? The answers may be printed on the backing plates. If you can look, Thanks!

When it comes to brakes I am not taking any chances so I would not use them.
