I was told by the dealership doing the work on my Corvette, that I'm getting a factory-new engine from GM. I may have the car back on the road Friday.

The question with warranties is like Clint Eastwood once said " Do you feel lucky...well do ya"?

And a similar thing happened to me! It seems this is not very uncommon in the 2014 and later Corvettes. Mine was a 2014, treated like a baby, and in mint condition with only 25,500 miles on it. One day I go to start it and it sounds like rocks banging around under the hood. Black smoke from exhaust and it won't start. Brought to Chevy dealer here in NJ and I was told the engine seized!! And it needs a new engine!! They said it wasn't worth the money to break it down and diagnose exact problem. When i checked around I was told they were probably right. I let them replace the engine, it cost me $12,900, and I just got it back and it seems to be running fine so far. When they took the original engine out they found "a valve in cylinder #2 disintegrated and was consumed by the cylinder causing engine to seize." I contacted Chevy customer service and begged them for help but they, of course, said there is nothing they can do. Its clearly out of warranty and there are no recalls involving the engine. When i looked online for corvette engine failure many similar stories came up immediately, even a story from Car and Driver magazine where their brand new Corvette test car in 2014 had engine failure at 6,000 miles!! In the test car they were given!!!! So this is more than just a rare occurrence. Does anyone know of an attempt at a class action lawsuit for this? It seems Chevy should take some responsibility for such a common problem. The valves they used must have been faulty in some way.

They also have a 4 yr /42K mile . Same price but monthly payment is for only 30 months the 1.5 yrs no payment. They waved the normal 300 sign up fee. There is a 30 day/ 1000 mile wait. Trying to find out if it's both or just one or the other. I did not write his answer down clearly. GM motors have a known lifter issue, even with my 22 Tahoe .

Exactly. There are a lot of stories on Better Business Bureau regarding third-party warranty companies. The exclusions buried in the contracts are crazy. I'm glad this instance worked out for the OP, though. I get that all of the reviews on BBB are going to be negative, but they are interesting to read and hope that it wouldn't happen to you.

GM will warranty , I was told, back to 2016 and no more then 40K miles. My 2014 w31K miles ( just purchased)did not qualify so I just bought a 5 yr/ 54K mile Supreme warranty from Endurance. I also looked in to Carchex and the Mercedes dealer offered me Continental. Carchex was a 3 or 4 year with 100,000 miles for about $108 or $112/mo. Endurance is 140/mo for 3 years then the final 2 years are no payment. Comes out to $84/month at 5 years. They said there is a prorate refund or transfer if I sell before 5 years. No cap and they are all in house funding and all. No inspections or bartering with the dealer, and I have a direct number to the rep. Carchex was a giant call center, (and they apparently don't pay for repairs but have outside companies ), and a different person each call. My endurance rep is : Elisha 312-667-6124
