.......change your own oil?
Been doing my own changes except for the free ones offered after purchase, but then watched them like a hawk at the dealership. Just recently completed my 13th oil change in 54K miles.
I've heard the stories from others, service folks don't know a wet sump system from a dry sump system. When you say "put in 9 quarts only", they put in 10 quarts, or a dry sump system, they'll put in 6 quarts. Not the highest paid folks doing oil changes. I have peace of mind knowing mine is done right.

I've been changing oil on all my vehicles since i was a teenager. Including lawn mowers/tractors. Never even used the free oil changes with the C7.
At 75 I'm a lot slower getting up off the garage floor but I wouldn't have it any other way.

ChiefBoats, I just had my last free oil change. Next spring I will do my own oil change.
I noticed you use 'Extended Performance', any special reasoning?
What is the filter part number?
I just watched an interesting YouTube video:

Anyone using Fram filters?
Most of the time, I get the Advanced-Auto specials, oil and filter for $35.(5 qts)

Yes, I do my own oil changes, but I certainly do not do it as often as you do - I go by the OLM.

It's been a long time since FRAM filters were any good! YMMV...

Fortunately my dealer Van Bortel in Macedon NY has 2 dedicated techs that only work on Corvettes. They have been servicing my Vettes since 2008 and never an issue. So while they do their thing I enjoy a coffee and a donut.

I disagree with you on the notion that all Fram filters are sub-standard and unacceptable. Do some searching on oil forums (e.g., Bobstheoilguy.com) and read tests and opinions that the Fram Ultra Guard (XG) synthetic series is one of the best, possibly the best, filter on the market. In the distant past the low-priced Fram models were given some bad press based on tear-down tests, but those cheaper items have been improved since that time. I wouldn't use a cheap filter option even on my mower, and the acceptable but not stellar PF-64 is only an option for the time being because of by C7's current warranty status.

The problem I've had with the C7 is that it requires the XG12060 to meet bypass valve specs, and I've had trouble finding this part number. I've been using AC Delco on my C7s while the powertrain warranty is still in effect, but as soon as that has expired and the correct XG filter becomes more readily available I will change. I do have an XG10060 (C6 bypass spec) here which I'm confident would work fine in the C7 in street use, but I won't do that while the warranty is active.

There's something sacred about doing my own oil changes, and most other maintenance that I'm able to do, because I take the time to do it right. Like you I reluctantly took advantage of the free oil changes during the first two years, but I picked my dealers and techs carefully. And like Blueray, at 74 I get up off the garage floor slower than I did 30 years ago, but I'm retired and am in no hurry.

I noticed you use 'Extended Performance', any special reasoning?
I've always used the standard Mobil 1 variety, as the Extended Performance oil is overkill for my uses. It has a stouter additive package for extended change intervals, which isn't necessary but also won't hurt anything. I follow the OLM and don't need it, but bought two 5-qt. jugs of EP a couple of months ago to tap the current rebate program. It's interesting that EP costs ~$24 while the standard is $22 at Walmart, but the M1 rebate gives you $5 more per jug, and that gives you a $6 winfall on two jugs. Don't laugh: That pays for a six pack of my favorite beer and that makes me very happy.

No can not get under the car as I do not own a jack. I actually have been going to Best Chevrolet in Hingham Massachusetts for about 7 years now where they have a Corvette technician that works on Corvettes. I am lucky he is very careful and brings me out back to the service shop where he goes over what services GM recommends on my Corvettes but never is to pushy at all. For $80 to change the oil how can I go wrong. I always tip him $20 as I am so happy with his service!!!

I absolutely do my own oil changes for my personal vehicles, and have been for nearly 50 years. I enjoy taking my time, and checking out everything on the bottom side of the car, and SAVING MONEY, although that is NOT the main reason.

Been using the AC Delco PF 64 (owner's manual recommended) since day one.
Car's a little older now, 54K miles, EP oil won't hurt, and besides if I wanted to go a little longer between changes, I have some peace of mind there.
I've been old school with oil changes, back in the day, it was religiously changed at 3K, hard to break that habit, so it's now 4K or a little longer.

I'm 70, and farmed my whole life since I was very young. I've changed oil and serviced semi's, combines, huge tractors for many.years and now I pay for my Vette to get serviced by a recommended tech. It just hurts too much to get under there. No guilt here!

I never thought I would hit the age when I didn't want to do my own oil changes, but honestly, between work and two little kids, I save my energy to detailing and cleaning the garage

Default Yep

Yep. Absolutely. The first thing I do is install a magnetic drain plug (two with the dry sump). It’s a bit OCD but I know that’s it’s done right and it’s to my liking.

Didn't do an engine oil change yet because the dealer had to change it themselves for the oil consumption test. However I already changed the gear oil and transmission oil on my own. My car is still under warrantee but still I just replaced the tensioner and the belt on my own dime. I saved a whole lot of time and the deductible was not much less. You can bet when the warrantee is up I will be doing all the other repairs myself except like an engine rebuild/swap, transmission or clutch. I don't have that kind of time anymore.
