Default Battery question

How can you tell age of the battery? Is there a date code. Not sure if my car is still original or if it has been changed. Car is 2014 and i just bought it few months ago

The battery will usually have an engraved code or strip with code the includes manufacture date. Unfortunately you would probably have to remove some stuff, or the battery, to see this.

Is it a Delco in it now, if so it's a good chance it's original. All battery manufacturer's mark/stamp their dates in different locations in different ways. Delco date codes are located on the top label of the battery. The first character is either a P or S. The next two digits determine the month, the third digit is year and the fourth digit indicates the manufacturing plant. For example, P 097N means the battery was made in September 2017.

I do not believe that the new AC Delco Battery has a date code for when it was sold.

I misplaced my receipt on a Battery that died prematurely and the Dealer would not warranty it. They said they do not keep records of when they are soldso, without the receipt, I was out of luck.

Now, I make sure I keep the receipt and tag the battery with when I bought it.

I keep receits for any parts I buy that have a warranty. One never know when a problem could pop up. Even new parts can die early. set up a file for them it just might save you money.

For a '14 it's likely been replaced (getting seven years on a factory battery is about as rare as an honest politician), and most batteries have a date stamp or tag attached, but it's a bit of a pain to get to it.

You are correct, battery date codes document when the battery was manufactured, not when it was sold.

Good question. It appears to be a lot of work to replace the battery, but maybe not as bad as it looks. For any of you (DIY) who have replaced the battery in your C7, how much work was it and how long did it take you to do it?

Look up fellow forum member JerryU. He has a great step by step pdf. For the first time it takes about 45 mins.

^ and with the C7, it helps to have a battery strap handy as the cavity the battery sits in makes it difficult to just lift the battery out with your hands.

If you decide to change the battery, get this tool. Made it super easy to lift the battery out. This side battery lifter was less than $15 on Amazon.

If you have a Roadster, it is easier if you take out the carpet before you begin.

Also, the battery vent elbow comes separate from the battery. Make sure the Dealer gives it to ypu. I had to make a second trip because they forgot.

My 2014 is still running on the OEM battery. Was good and strong when she went into storage (on the tender, of course). This lady is installing referenced OEM battery at the factory, probably on 2/17/14 when my car was being built. Photo was taken by NCM and was one of many included in my build album, ordered when I ordered my car.
