Are Corvettes Accident Prone?
Never thought it would happen to my treasured Z06. Circumstances change in the blink of an eye. An inattentive or just plain aggressive driver rolled through a stop sign at an intersection right before my eyes. In total shock my only option/reflex was to hammer the brakes & swerve to miss him, plunging me into a ditch up against several road sign posts. Still incredulous about what just happened I realized the offending driver took off out of sight. No apparent witness' or other traffic was present at the intersection. No damage to me but the sight of my garage queen sitting in a ditch with cracked fiberglass all down the passenger side was a bitter pill to swallow. After a 911call, I had to explain to the officers & subsequently the insurance company I had know idea what or where the offending vehicle was. The scariest part about such an encounter is how fast it can happen & how helpless one feels during & after the fact. So much for a perfect vehicle & a clean carfax.

Wow, sorry this happened to you. I honestly get paranoid when I hear stories like this or happen to see one of the many "idiots in cars" videos that pop up on Reddit. It's why I've gotten into the habit of always running a dash cam on my other vehicles and the PDR is always turned on with the Z06. Hopefully a good body shop can fix your car as good as new - but without proof, your insurance is most likely going to class this is an "at fault single vehicle accident".

I don't think Corvettes are accident prone, but other drivers do act like idiots when they see a Corvette. That can lead to an accident. It's noticeable with Beamers and Mustangs. Just had an incident with a Audi last week. Dude pissed me off so bad I did something I don't usually do, blew his doors off, Big Time.

Big ouch. I am very sorry to see this.
Accidents do happen incredibly fast. You did the best you could.

Good luck with the repairs, make sure you choose a shop that has experience with Vettes and a good reputation regarding their work.

And, realistically, Corvette drivers aren't the best drivers out there either - not enough seat time. Low mileage Corvettes are the norm. People don't learn how quickly they turn. How quickly they stop. Don't understand torque steer, or road bump change of direction.... go to any Chevy dealer's body shop holding area... there are generally two or more Vettes in various stage of repairs... saw two in for repairs at a Dallas area dealer yesterday....

I wouldn't say Corvette owners are more accident prone than any other performance vehicle. I would say that sport cars ownership attracts younger age groups and historically younger drivers are less experienced, more aggressive, and more prone to accidents than are other age groups. Insurance data and insurance premiums bear this out. Putting 500 HP in a young, inexperienced driver's hands is a risky proposition.

Depending on where the owner lives may play a small factor in the final costs incurred. Here in Virginia my friend had just about the same damage to his 19 GS. The only difference was the OP had a little scrap up near the passenger front headlight. My friend did not. His final repair negotiated by his insurance company with his local Chevy dealer came to slightly under 3K. The repair looked excellent. Could not tell there ever was an accident. I can't tell from the OP's pics whether there is any damage to either of the 2 wheels which could add another 1,800. I doubt seriously the OP's repair would cost more than 4K. The insurance company would never agree to that large of a reimbursement. You can count on that.

I get it
Though its a real sad sight it's not serious enough that once repaired you'll never be able to tell. I have been rear ended twice in my two C6's, one driver, an older woman took off, the other was a woman in a minivan with kids.....one rule I made was when I was hit, I always did an upgrade of some kind while she was being repaired (ex; had the exhaust upgraded).....a deserved reward

Not that I know. My first response was that an auto accident occurred with no injuries but I need a police report & a tow vehicle. Two officers responded within minutes. Very helpful & professional. Kudos to Apache Junction, AZ police department.
