Default tight garage - door / front protection

Just bought a new house and have 3 garages, which is great, but means i have a single dedicated to my corvette which is a bit tight. I have found myself

1) struggling on pull in with being too far out and having to inch up a few times - the video is just too hard to see with the cameras to know exactly where i am

2) hitting the door on the dry wall on exit a few times...

Went to lowes and couldnt find wheel chalks so will need to look for something else to put down - what have you all found that worked well for the door protection on the wall and to mark for the pull in? I dont want to use the old tennis ball on a string..

thanks guys!

2 x 6 on the floor works well and is easy to move when needed. A few magic marker dots helps you put it back in the right spot if you've moved it.

I got 4 of those business carpet squares from an old remodel. The carpet squares have a rubber backing, so they don't tend do move ad the wheel runs up on them. I stack 2 carpet squares per wheel on the axle I want to gauge. When I feel that tiny lift as she runs up on the carpet squares, I know she's placed properly.

Jipper - Ive got the solutions for you. This works for me.

Door protection - I bought a foam pool noodle and adhered it to the wall. Creates a nice soft buffer between the drywall.

Pulling in - I bought an electronic stop device. Uses sonar and a light comes on when your in the right spot. Very easy to setup. Similar to this:

I use a tennis ball for my daughter, not good at judging distance. When it hits the windshield you stop perfect every time. No $$ spent. simple project

I took a grease pencil and a straight edge and marked exactly where the left rear tire should be when parked. I have my mirrors tilt down automatically when I go in reverse so I can guide the car to its spot. I also took some black gorilla tape and made an arrow pointing to the center spot in my rear license plate. So when the arrow starts to disappear under my camera to the spot between the middle two exhaust tips, the car is in perfect position.

As RonC7 said. Sometimes simple is easiest/best. If you have to pull into garage at a slight angle (I do), tennis ball isn’t perfect. .Some folks like to overthink things but to each their own.😎

I put blue painter's tape on the garage floor after getting my car completely situated. Now when I pull in I can shift into reverse and my rear-view camera can tell me if I'm in correctly or not. No tennis *****, no 2 x 4's, no noodles!

I got my wheel chocks at Harbor Freight for 7.99

I was thinking of putting some type of door protection like a piece of weather striping on wall but I like the Highland Door Protector that was posted by DaveWithTwoFeet . Ordering that from Amazon instead !

It doesn't get any simpler and cheaper than that ! My mom used that string and tennis ball method for years !

I've found a large 70+ flat screen TV box on the side works great. I back in with the wall on the passenger side and can bump the passenger mirror against the box knowing I'm as far over as I can get. Then I use the reverse camera for depth. Downside is it only really works in this exact parking arrangement.

For my SUV that I park next to it I use one of these.

I have a laser device that mounts on the ceiling and projects a red dot on the dashboard. It connects to the electric opener. When the red dot is in the exact middle of the speaker cutout, I am perfect. I also have the mats that are under the right front wheel that has a front and back raised bump. It is screwed to the floor. It is not a trip hazard when the bay is empty.

There's 2 video views on the front cameras. Do you have both views turned on? I find that using both to be of great assistance in judging how close is close.👍

For the positioning, these parking mats made by Lee Valley are great...have one for my C7 and the other for my wife's Subaru. Cheap and effective. For the door...I just took an old heater hose, cut it length wise, and mounted it to the 2x4 wall inside the garage...so the door always opens on the soft rubber now. That one was free

I always go for simplicity when simplicity works.
My yellow ball is attached to the garage door so that when door is opened for C7 to enter ball is down, then when C7 is in correct location and garage door is lowered the ball retracts up and out of the way.

Garage door up and ball down against windshield.

Garage door closing and ball retracting up:

A simple system like this works well. I have four square pieces of old carpet that I use to know when I am in the right spot in the garage. As for the wall protection, you can buy some plastic protectors that mount on the wall (most aftermarket parts suppliers sell them - Mid-America, Ecklers, etc.). Or, get a small piece of foam rubber or similar material and mount it on the wall where the door would open against it.
