$20,000 for upgrades to 2019 LT1 Coupe
#21
I'd buy a low milage C6 with that twenty grand for an extra car to have on hand.
That's what I would do, oh wait, that's what I did.

Thanks for all the great input. Having owned cars from all but C1 and C2 and of course C8 generations, I have always loved the C5 design and driving experience. Thank you OWC6 for the suggestion to just get an additional car. As luck would have it I was fortunate enough to make contact with the owner of a 2004 LeMans Edition ZO6. Looks like a deal is in the works.

My car has 1400 miles on the clock. Looking at ZO6 offerings, the average prices for used 2019 ZO6 cars here in Ca. are around $70k. $20k would not be a break even deal. I would love to keep my car and just upgrade it. I am not sold on the C8 cars. This is my 15th Corvette, kind of an old school front engine guy. At 70 years old, I need to make some decisions before Covid or the Reaper get me. Just saying...

Or dont heavily modify it?...
Which is why I bought one kit. Cam, heads all stock, carb legal, can be removed in a day, Low psi. and I have not heard or seen an engine failure off the base kit with the base tune. Thats the problem with you youngsters you always want more and more and so many lower the pulley and get some privet guy to change the tune then blame the mfg when stuff goes wrong.
I dont know how buying an older, same or slower vehicle will improve the 2019, Stepping on the gas is allot faster then thinking I'll come back to this stretch of road with my other car. With 20K you have enough to get the SC and pay for another rebuild IF ever needed.. Hell thats enough not only for the SC but to wrap your car yellow and join the MOST exciting group of the Corvette world

if you upgraded to a C7 Z06 you would slap yourself for not doing it sooner... it's that good.

I am 20 years your junior, but as a career military man, I realize that the life in your years are more important than the years in your life. You are obviously doing pretty well for yourself and it’s nice to have options, especially with an extra $20k to spend on an already nice and fast ride.
Unless you are planning to do all or some of the modification work yourself (that’s half the joy of modifying a car), I’d find something more worthwhile to spend that money on. As we get older, experiences tends to be more important and fulfilling than having things. Granted, owning and driving a Corvette IS an experience, but I’d rather use $20k extra to travel around IN my Vette and enjoy life.
But that’s just me.
I wish you well on whatever you decide.

Spending 20K on the corvette you have you will never get any of the money back...in fact you might even lower the value of it. So like those have mentioned...upgrade the cor70vette model. guessing your 201 9 is worth about 48,000. An extra 20,000 is at least 1.5 years worth of z06 car payments...you could always trade it in then. Just a thought. if you do not like the payment idea you should be able to find a z06 for about 70,000,

Do basic (headers, Non catted x pipe, ported intake, a Soler TB, and of course a tune) bolt on mods to bump it up a bit, do the DSC suspension controller, and forged wheels. An then with what’s left over do some tasteful exterior/interior mods extended carbon flash mud guards front and back, Carbon flash wheel well arches/spats, and then possibly some under hood goodies from showstoppers or American hydro graphics.

I am 72 and got my 19 base last December. I would have much preferred a GS but it was either a base Stingray or some other less $ car. I have several times heavily modded cars and always lose my a$$ when I sell. I like to autocross so I have put Z51 shocks and bars on it. I am researching seat covers as I don't like black. I would also love to have cooled seats, well not actually cooled but a fan moving air through the cover. I am thinking about a throttle controller because the response when I blip it for a downshift sucks. If I were you, I'd forget about the $20k you have available and do easy bolt on mods. Always thinking can I undo this when I sell the car and sell it separately. Think about things that bug you a little and fix them. I like someone's idea to do other things w/ your $. I see you are in Cali, so it would include airfare etc, but a 3-4 day trip to Bolling Green would be fantastic. So would a class at one of the driving schools that use Corvettes.

I am also up there in age at 76 and have bought and sold many cars over that time. one of the things I found is i could buy a modified car much cheaper than a stock car, take off all the modifications, sell them on eBay and then sell the car for way more than the purchase price.
I have to agree with the leave it stock and spend the money on gas & tires group.
