Default Ship, or fly and roadtrip?

Hey, all.
Just bought GS CE #835 from a dealer in St Louis. I'm in Raleigh.
Enclosed shipping quotes are $1100/$1200.
Could do that. Pretty simple.
Pay the money, it shows up at my house.
OR...

For the same money.
Southwest has one way tickets for $150.
Day 1: Fly to St Louie with my wife.
Pick up the car in the morning and head to Bowling green. See the museum and spend the night somewhere near the museum.
Day 2: drive to Louisville, tour the Kentucky Derby Museum. Spend the night in somewhere near Churchill downs.
Day 3: drive home, about 8 1/2 from Louisville.

Only hesitation is Covid.
Anyone have experience with what the Corvette museum and even the Derby museum are like lately?
Can you still enjoy the tours?

Any good places to stay near each of those places?

Thanks!

If you have a Corona fear, then get it shipped.

Personally, even though I haven't bought into the Corona hysteria, I would not fly commercial right now.
Which shippers have you priced? Intercity is the best, though probably not the cheapest.

or rent a car in Raleigh with a one-way dropoff in St. Louis. car will be clean (I hope, they're all saying they are doing a thorough job of it). It's about 895 miles one way. Nice day and a quarter trip.

Find a good hotel that's got a sterling rep, and call and ask the front desk how well they're going to sterilize---sounds over the top--so what? it's your health!!! (me, it's Marriott and all their "lesser brands" like Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, etc.; or Hampton Inn, Holiday Express, etc.---you choose).

Last time I saw the Cor. Muse. was last summer before the pandemic. Who Knows? Call and ask them how it's going, what they've done to protect people, etc. They'll give you a mostly accurate rundown on all of it.

Don't know a thing about the Derby place.

Just a question: are you buying this car sight-unseen?

Note: I do agree the least "invasive" way for you re Covid, is to have it shipped. But then, YOU get to do a full, sanitizing of the car. Are you up for that---from all the insides, etc.? Just asking...otherwise, I've heard nothing but good about Intercity, and Plycar is a good trucking alternative w. a good rep, too.

Was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. If I could have made it work, I would have flew over and drove it home. I just couldn't make the work schedule cooperate.

You'll have to decide if you want to risk it. I think in general Kentucky has done well mitigating Covid. Just take some wipes for hotel room and plenty of hand sanitizer. We always stay at Hampton Inn which is a couple of exits south of NCM. Look at the NCM website, but I'm pretty sure they have made changes to deal with Covid and should have that info on the website.

Congrats, you are going to love your GS. Be sure to post some pics of it and post here!!!

That's a great point, I've bought cars all over and my experiences have taught me not buy one (even a new one) without inspecting it.
The rental car scenario above sounds like a good option.

Agree, but if I were you, I would definitely fly to St Louis and drive it home

I prefer Reliable Carriers, but I have used Intercity also and they are good, just run less routes.

I just bought mine and shipped mine because I am high risk so couldn't afford the luxury to drive in the current environment, however, I really love buying a new car and spending time on a road trip to enjoy it.

Thanks, all.
We are excited for a road trip
like that, but we’re wimping out.
My wife is on immunosuppressants for her RA, so I think I’m just going to shop.
These we’re the shipping results I got.
Intercity: doesn’t travel that route
Reliable: $1340
Shipaa: $1100
The dealers independent carrier:$1200
Roadrunner: $1100

Thought I heard bad things from Plycar so didn’t get a quote from them.

all enclosed.

The museum is doing all sorts of Covid stuff like no wristbands, pamphlets, the touch screen things are mostly on loops, cleaning touchpoints frequently.

I think we’d be more worried about getting sick than enjoying the experience.
I guess there’s always another time.

Forget costs, Fly-$-Drive is the only way to go... IF you have the time and are okay with the risk of flying right now. Been there...

Fly and drive is the only way to go. I flew 2 weeks ago from St. Louis to Savannah and back and we ALL had masks on each way. The next day I flew from St.
Louis to Charlotte ( 1 hr. 50 min ) and then on to Pa. where masks were mandatory on all flights. The air on the planes are actually cleaner than grocery stores is what we were told. Which dealer here in St. Louis are you buying from?

Is the car brand new? I'm unclear on that. If it's already got any miles on it then why the hell not, eh, make a trip out of it.

if a vehicle is brand new or otherwise not out of break in period yet, then no don't putz on down the highway at the same rpm for a while, that's a break in no-no.

Have InterCity deliver it. It's the only way to go.

Just let @DALE#3 pick it up for you. He'll drop it off to you in 1 piece. He'll give ya a good deal on the price. He works cheap.

I can understand the concern with your wife. The idea of renting a car one way then driving the Vette back is not a bad one. Takes a little longer to make the trip, but could still be a fun adventure.
