Default Nav update

Is a nav update on a new 2019 GS considered a warranty event??
Thanks!

If you mean do you get a free update on NAV...I do not know for sure...but I DO NOT think so.

No NAV update is free. You pay for it and it is VIN sensitive so only 1 VIN can use the update.

I never update the Nav systems.....I just use WAZE on my phone. The roads are always up to date and you know where the cops are also. So you get nav and radar all in one.

Annnd I imagine you have your phone sitting up nice and high on a pedestle so you can use the WAZE App and it looks really nice up the, almost OEM what with all it's bracket and cords.

While the rest of us stumble into every radar trap (oops, I have an R7, not me) and face a horrible system that can never get me where I need to go (oops again, NAV is fine, so, not me). No you think you get radar but you don't get the radar coming up behind you in the rolling cruiser or the cop moves or the cop just pulls up 15 seconds before you get there. or...

Oh, never mind. I'm sure WAZE never has an issue.

I'll just stay with my OEM nav and my R7 and drive happily down the road.

Nav updates cost ~$150, or are "discounted" to ~$100 just before the next revision is released
My experience on both Ford and GM nav "updates" has been miserable... roads and major freeway changes that were two years old were not included...
I have decided to update only every 3 - 4 years and in unfamiliar territory, check navigation with an iPhone app.

I luv using the OEM nav. Integrates fantastic with my HUD. It doesn't endanger me and others around me as I am never distracted by having to turn my head away to look at a phone screen. Using you phone like this I believe is illegal here in Virginia. It's a safety hazard.

I use the OEM nav sometimes and WAZE sometimes. When using WAZE via Apple CarPlay it is displayed on my car’s screen just as the OEM nav, so I don’t have to look at my phone.

It's much easier to see the directions on the HUD than it is looking at the navigation screen when you're going a hundred miles an hour. Just saying.

I was just throwing out an alternative. Everyone is free to use/do what works best for their particular situation. I’m very familiar with using the HUD in my car and in aircraft.

I did the update on my 2015 for $100.
The program is still clunky and I couldn't really confirm it was any better than the previous version.

Looks like there is a new NAV update available: https://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/pro...en_US/GMNA/USD

I have, but for a 2019. Guess there are differences between these versions of software.

Thanks!
No, those times are no more. Back when I bought my 2007 Tahoe, they provided 3 years of free map updates you would get from the GM Navigation Store, as they now call it, which I took advantage of. When I traded it in for a 2012 GMC Yukon, that program was long gone and I refused to pay the $199 every time for an update. This was when you didn't need it coded to your VIN and could get a used one on Ebay for half the price (or better) occasionally.

As many have/will tell you, those updates are at least one year (or more) behind in currency. Since you have a 2019, don't waste your money and as many have said here, just use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for their mapping options. They will be much more up-to-date for sure. Case in point; they just opened a new extension of a turnpike here around the Southwest side of OKC which is still not fully completed, but it is already depicted in Apple Maps and Google Maps!!
