Default Pilot Super Sports, no longer being manufactured?

I tried to order some new tires from Tire Rack, P285/30R19 MI PLT SPR SPRT ZP tires and the P335/25R20 MI PLT SPR SPRT ZP, and Tire Rack's response: "are currently on back order and the manufacturer’s estimated arrival date to our warehouse is not available because Michelin currently has no production scheduled for these sizes".

Anyone else hear about this? Is it Covid related, or is there a new tire coming?

Just a guess, but it very well could be a Covid 19 issue, but as mentioned, Luke at Tire Rack may be able to help you with an answer. Would seem strange that those size tires would no longer be made.

It looks like the tires are made in SC? I wonder if the plant shutdown?

I find it hard to believe they would just discontinue that tire with so many C7's on the road. The plant is probably temporarily shutdown due to covid.

Check with your Chevy dealer too, they may have info since it's the OEM tire.

Have you tried calling Michelin (customer support) direct?

The C8 uses the Michelin AS4 or 4S tires.
The history is that some day Michelin will start making those tires in C7 sizes and discontinue the current C7 tires.
AFAIK, that hasn't happened yet.

There were times during the production run when the C6 factory tires were unavailable for weeks or even months at a time, a friend drove his C6 on my C5 snow tires for a while because he couldn't get the proper replacements.
If that could happen in good times, anything is possible in the Covid time.

I just had one of these replaced on my 2019 GS. I went to my local Discount Tire and they were able to order it directly from Michelin. It took about a week for the shop to get it. Actually just got it taken care of Wednesday.

Also, you might find a set on the Parts for Sale section of the boards, seems like lots of people are selling them. Either way, good luck man!

With that all being said, Discount Tire Direct has this staggered set available in limited quantity and it looks like the vast majority of distributors do as well. If we can help with a set (or pair) shoot us a PM and we'll see what we can do
Thanks for the quick follow up. Impressive. But not surprising from Discount Tire. Kudos.

I asked Tire Rack today about the OEM Michelin Super Sport ZP's for my 2016 Z51 and the rep said the front 245/35/19 is discontinued by Michelin. Is this right? Why would Michelin discontinue just the fronts?

What else are others doing to replace their tires now? Thanks.

Last week, I went to my local Discount Tire store I’ve been going to for 20 years. Told them I want a set of new Michelin Pilot Super Sports for my Grand Sport. They came in three days later and all were dated in 2020, just a few months old. Installed and I’m a happy camper. Now, I have a complete set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2’s in great condition with only about 600 miles on them, in my garage. In case anyone is interested, just pm me.

Michelin may have discontinued a specific tire in a size just because they're working on a new tire in that size with something better, or they make them in series of runs and we're just between a series right now. I knew some people that worked in Greenville SC a few years ago but they've left for greener pastures.

I know that was the case for the Continental ExtremeContacts I ordered for my 88 a year ago or so, they were between runs and were updating the actual product to a slightly newer version.

Just confirmed with Tire Rack that rears are still available, but the fronts are discontinued.

There is a new part number for the front tires. Michelin made a couple changes to improve rolling resistance but keep all the same performance characteristics. But due to this the tire doesn't have the TPC spec anymore. I got the new front's from Discount tire and they are like for like with the old TPC ones.
