March 31st I bought a used 2016 Z51 Coupe from a local non GM dealer. The car had non stock wheels.
I knew they weren't GM wheels. With the help of the forum they turned out to be custom 2 pc. forged wheels.
I have since found out the wheels are extremely expensive (5 figures per a forum vendor).
My insurance company is telling me I should put a rider on the policy for the wheels as aftermarket parts.
I need opinions on what I should do'
A. Pay the rider cost (significant)
B. Just let it alone. The ins co. says they would pay for a normal set of wheels/tires plus up to $1k extra if I ever
needed to file a claim.
C. Sell the wheels for some value less than what they cost and put stock GM wheels on the car.
D. Trade the wheels for a factory set plus some cash.
I am not married to the wheels and generally prefer factory original parts.
Right now I am leaning towards "B". If ever something happened to the wheels, I would just bite the bullet
and replace with factory parts.
What would you do?

What I would do would completely depend on how much I like the wheels. If I like them a lot I would protect them correctly (pay to play).
If I was indifferent, then do as you would and let it ride. You can always find GM take off wheels or reproductions if need be.
If I didn't like them I would sell them and swap back to OEM and pocket the cash.

Purchasing Forgelines, I contacted my insurance agent and asked him if I needed additional insurance or a rider to cover the wheels. He informed me to hold onto the invoice for the wheels. If they are stolen or damaged, present the paperwork as proof and it will be covered under the normal policy. I am going to verify this once I receive the wheels.

If you pay for the insurance rider to cover your wheels-
Damage from theft would fall under Comprehensive claims and usually no deductible (check to be sure).
Damage from potholes might be considered Comprehensive too, or Collision; seems to vary with your state of residence and maybe even which company you have. Collision normally has a significant deductible.

Factory Z51 wheels can bend also, ask me how I know. But the bends were slight, had them straightened and no problems so far. If you get factory wheels, have them checked before the sale is final.

B is the self-insurance route and is generally what I almost always do. To be of more help I think we would first need to see a photo of the wheels and know who made them. Then we would need to know which insurance company, the specific premium of the rider, and any applicable deductible and coverage limits. If you are considering Option B, we might assume that you actually like the look.

Option B. If you actually bought them yourself, maybe another option. But they came with the car. No pain to your wallet. Enjoy the windfall. If you tried to sell them you'd get nowhere near asking price. I wouldn't want to pay insurance on them.

I was told that I wouldn't be covered w/o the rider even with a receipt (which I don't even have). Because the wheels are so much more than what they regard as
normal wheels they wouldn't be covered for an amount greater than a regular GM wheel.

Thanks everyone.
Going with option B. Since I didn’t pay for the wheels I am not spending anymore on them.

If I decide later on to change wheels, I will try option D and see what I can get for them.

If worried about theft it would depend where you work, park, nights(?). If at home & a garage I wouldn't worry about them. If your car catches fire & burns down to the wheels---well you've got bigger problems. JMO
