No matter. Always enjoy a happy ending.

In case you were wondering, I have insurance through NCM, agreed upon value and zero deductible so I was covered either way.

Thanks to everyone for your input!
Glad to read you had NCM/American Modern agreed value...that is probably why they didn't total your car - they would have paid you - what? - about $70,000?
I have my 2017, GS,11,000 mile car insured for about that with them.
A body shop that far away would not be my favored choice but you didn't have any other option I bet.
It will be a loooong time before you get this back...hoping for the best for you and a fast recovery from the storm. It sucks.

News flash to Boss: The insurance company decides if a car is totaled or not, YOU have no say in that decision.

My estimate was based on what it cost to fix mine 4 years ago. Wasn't cheap and wasn't fast, but it came back good as new and 4 years/40k miles later, still like it never happened.
I'm in Trenton/Princeton area about 50 miles west of Rumson.

Ouch! It doesn't get much worse than the feeling you get when you hit wet grass. Glad to hear they got you fixed up.

It's not a news flash and you need to negotiate hard with the Insurance company, friend just did it 2 months back and won the battle.
Looking at OPs pics its surely needs to be totalled.

Got that right.
Grass was very wet and just a short ride to the tire wall.
Track day insurance covered all but $5000 deductible with absolutely no hassles.

Maybe on something like pain & suffering, not on whether the car is a total or not. And exactly what does the car owner have to "negotiate" with?

How about cost of a rental Corvette for the 2-3 months it’s in the shop and diminished value.

News Flash.... That is wrong, I handle the auto insurance for my company and deal with many different insurance companies and there have been many times I have been able to persuade the inspector that comes to look at the vehicle to total it. There have been times that they won't listen but more often than not when it's close it's easy to get them to total it if you are nice to them. I have had the same experience with personal vehicles;es as well.

The insurance company is holding all the cards. What do you have to negotiate with? Nothing. The chance of getting a rental Corvette is zero. And most insurance policies specifically state that diminished value is not covered.

Oh, I know, you can tell them you are going to hold your breath until they meet your demands.

About totalling the car when damage is extensive and not safe to drive. Fortunately I dont have personal experience but know it's possible based on friends experiences.

In OPs case it's obvious insurance company is saving money because its agreed upon value

Sometimes body shops will buy similarly damaged vehicles and use them to keep their guys working during the occasional slack time. So it might have a second life.As with a private party repairing a vehicle on his own, the labor costs are less of a factor.

Sorry for what happened to your car (s) and specifically your Corvette. I am also sorry they didn’t total your car and pray it will be okay once they repair it.

Exactly. I live in a small town of 10k, so the best option was to send it off to someplace that could handle the job. I know plenty of people say to total it, but the truth the is I love the car and want it back. Time will tell if it really will be good as new but I'm hopeful....and I know it will take awhile. I'm not expecting to see it again until at least June.

Since you live in Arkansas, the actual cash value vs repair costs, is 70%. This means that if the cost to repair the car is more than 70% of the actual cash value of the car, just before the damage, the car is automatically totaled. Since this is state law, I don’t believe that the agreed upon replacement part of your policy matters. Challenge your insurance company’s decision if you believe that the cars actual cash value falls into this formula! I went through this here in Nevada, which is 65%, and got my wife’s car totaled.

he said in above updated post, total to repair is approx. $22.5K. that wouldn't be 70% or more of actual cash value, would it?
