2017 Z51 oil filter wrench?
Hey guys,
Am about to change the oil on my 2017 Z51. Any suggestions on an up filter wrench? Never did the oil on this vehicle and I know some oil filters can be a real challenge to get to without the proper tool. So, is there a specific oil filter wrench you all like or the standard generic one size fits all strap type works well?
Thanks in advance!!

Walmart, Autozone, etc - all sell the bell shaped tool... The wrench "works" but its not as easy as the tool. Night and day difference.
Also - always try to do it by hand first - normally that's all that is needed to twist it - but sometimes it gets over tightened by the previous mechanic.

Having one of probably every oil filter tool available, I do prefer the cap style, however, as #2 advised, make sure it fits your filter. I found that the Wix filter & AC Delco filter like a different cap than the Mobil 1 oil filter. In addition, they are normally much less expensive than the price shown in the one Amazon advertisement (typically around $5 or $6 if I remember correctly). If you're interested, I can look up the actual numbers when I'm out in remote garage.
Hopefully we never need it, however, I do remember using drift pins to remove a couple of original filters that were installed way too tight by the factory. Fortunately it has been many years since having to use drift pin.

That's an important point. I couldn't find an AC Delco filter recently so used Mobile 1. I had to use my AC Delco cap to remove the AC Delco filter on my car and a friend's cap to put the new Mobile 1 filter on.

I forget which one fits the Mobil 1 filter. After ordering the wrong one I found the best route was to grab the filter at your local auto parts store and then find the matching filter wrench in the other isle via plain old fashion test fitting the various choices. If I remember the one that fit the Mobil 1 was, oddly enough, labeled for use on a Dodge Sprinter in my local Pep Boys.

I've always used a K&N filter that has a nut on it for easy removal (although I know people say that it doesn't meet specs). But that was on my C5 and C6. Not yet changed the oil on my C7 myself--but no more free changes, so this thread is pointing me towards some nice possibilities.

They (the filter and wrench) are nothing unusual, and filter placement is no issue. Just safely get it up level so you can get under it.
(just a suggestion, under-fill it a quart and add up to the middle of the dipstick indicator area. Like most, it never fully drains and can be overfilled by neophytes)

A couple of days ago I came across a YouTube video from Rick Conti about how to change the oil in a C7 with a dry sump. It actually doesn’t look difficult at all, although I can turn an easy task into a difficult one in 4 seconds flat!
Anyway, on a related note, the video was on a Z06. My question to you fine folks is, does the Z06 have different oil amounts than my Z51? I assume not, but thought I should ask. Also, is there a preferred oil to use in these babies, or is it like any other car...pick an oil of your choice?
As you can tell, I’m new to the Vette world. Have not even done an oil change in mine yet.

#1) Same amount of oil 9.5 Qts
#2) Mobil 1 5-30 not 10-30 or 0-40 (15-50 not 10-50 if you're going to the track, I think the 0-40 might work at the track too))
Those are my answers to your questions

Oil Filter wrenches - Looked at the ones I have that fit current Corvette filters.
CTA A258 - Fits Wix & I believe AC Delco (Don't have AC Delco filter in garage so I will trust others on this - Spec is 74 mm x 15 flutes (measured 73.9)
CTA A251 - Fits M1 - Spec is 76 mm x 14 flutes (measured 74.4)
CTA is brand I have - Other brands will work.
Confirming #19 - 0 - 40 W is current oil being used by Chevrolet to cover normal street use (used to be 5 - 30) & track use (used to be 0 -50). Chevrolet does recommend M! ESP oil to keep our catalytic convertors happy.
