Default C7 base seat mod

I've only had this car for a few weeks and the drivers seat was hurting me left leg/hip area. This was an unexpected unpleasant surprise because my C6 seats were very comfortable to me. I pushed back the seat material just over the seat controls as far as I could, and saw this big sharp ugly plastic clip that hooks over the metal seat rod many cars have. My truck has these rods, but nice smooth wide nylon clips go over them to attach the seat cover.
This was exactly where the pain originated. It's just one of several clips that hold the seat trim on, but it's in a terrible place.
So I cut it off with a 4 inch carbide disc. This made the seat much much better, comfortable really.
But this left the trim piece loose and an unsightly gap. I fixed this by drilling 2 small oblong holes 1/4 inch apart and attaching a zip tie to the rod. You can't see it because it's on the underneath part of the seat control indent. I pulled it just tight enough to close the gap, and cut off the extra.
This part is $44 at Corvette mods to reverse this mod.
This might sound horrible to you, but it's changed my whole C7 experience, as this was making me not want to drive the car.

Did you have to pull the seat out or did you do it on the car ? I have the same issue with my new 2019 GS. Any other pictures ?

I didn't pull out the seat. Just raise up as high as it goes with the adjuster. I pushed the seat material until I could see the hook, popped the hook off the rod with a tool (weed puller actually) and then you can pull it outward quite a bit. Then you can drill 2 holes from the top just inside the switch recess. I don't have a photo of it cut off, but I left very little without marring the outside of the trim piece. Now that it's zip tied, there's nothing to see except a 1/4 inch of the black zip tie where it goes out and back in. You would need a mirror to see it if you knew where to look.
Just got home from 2 hours in traffic, and it's a world better for my long boney legs.
I only did the drivers side, my wife loves the seats as is. She has a little more padding! Whoops I didn't say that. Ssssh.

Thanks for the tip. Way to think of a creative solution to a problem.

Hi Ed, I'm having the same problem as you did. Do you have any pics showing where you drilled the holes and routed the zip tie?

For those that asked, I tried to draw a pic and explain how the zip ties were routed. I hope this helps.

I know this is thread is old, but sometimes reviving an old thread with this kind of information for a newbie like myself can be helpful. Thanks for the information…

(I was not in the C7 world or the C7 forum when this thread started.)
