What got you started on Corvettes?

In 1973 I was 9 years old and the next door neighbor drove home in a brand new Stingray...I was hooked at that very moment. When I turned 21 I finally had enough money for a down payment, then fate kicked me square in the head and my girlfriend was pregnant. Got married then joined the greatest branch of service, the United States Coast Guard It was no longer practicle to own a corvette, especially being stationed in Alaska for 15 out of 30 years (3 different tours). Fast forward 30 years and retired from the Coast Guard in 2016, I got the itch again...I am now the proud owner of a 2017 Stingray! I purchased it new and now have 13,000+ smiles behind the wheel. She was more than worth the wait! By the way...still married to the same beautiful woman!

In 1965 I was early in my college career. One of our gearhead gang of seven guys had a full time job and bought a white/red 63 split window 4 speed Stingray coupe that was turning 14.2 quarter miles (impressive in the '60s).. We considered the car an automotive temple and him a minor deity.
A couple of years later, still a starving college student I conned my way into a test drive of a '64 4 speed manual and was absolutely hooked by its looks and performance. No way I could afford it, and I lost interest as they got larger, the quality and performance slumped and "life happened"... Then along came the C7 and the flame was rekindled.

I was riding Harleys. I enjoyed riding a ton. Then one day a blonde lady in a Jepp made a left turn from 4 lanes to the right in front of me and down me and the bike went. Well The bike was fixed but with the way my shoulder broke riding caused a lot of pain so I moved from a Harley to Corvette and am now on my 4th one

Ford dealer trying to get $5000 over sticker for a new GT500. Bought a new 07 convertible corvette for $20K less. I had been a Mustang fan for years but after driving the Vette there was no turning back.

I'm a bit more mature than some, so it was awhile ago (early to mid 60's) when muscle cars were first born. As a kid my neighbor was a big car guy, and drove some super nice cars. i.e.mainly GM Super Sport models. Hanging around his garage I became a student of those cars, but then one day I saw my first C2 Corvette. It was Katy bar the damn door after that.

My 4th grade teacher had a poster of an '86 convertible in the class room. I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen and I wanted one. Fast forward a decade or three and I just bought 'Vette #4 last May.

A childhood friend of mine had an older brother who owned several Corvettes. He used to pull them onto their front lawn every Saturday and wash them. The first one I remember was a blue 62, followed by a triple black 64 or 65 convertible. The last one he had while he still lived there was a gold 73 coupe. Not surprising, my first was a 73. My friend has fiberglass in his viens as well, living in Alabama now.

I sort of got some interest in Corvettes when I was young and my Dad's friend gave me a ride in his 66 Vert, Then in HS I was working picking stones out of new clay on a dirt track and the owner drove out on the track with the new 74 pace car and said I was doing a great job and said to take the Pacecar around a couple of laps. Then, when I was dating, a girls uncle let her take his 73 Corvette when she needed a car because hers was in the shop -that was a fun weekend!
These all made me take notice of Corvettes, but I liked other muscle cars as much.
The turning point was when I was looking for another play car and was actually looking for an IROC Z Camaro. I wasn't having much luck and saw an 84 Corvette 4+3 Z-51 that was about the same money. When my wife saw it I found out she LOVED Corvettes and always wanted one. We bought that, then about 5 years later a new 2015 with Z-51. I've told this before, but I had said to my wife that I was looking at adding a supercharger to the 2015 and she said, "wouldn't it make sense to get the one that comes with one", so we got our 2019 Z06. So, it looks like it was a gradual start, but no matter what got me started, I definitely have Corvette sickness now.

always loved the c2 stingray but the first time I saw a c7 I knew I'd have to try and get into one.
really like my C7 but I definitely don't drink the Chevrolet Kool-Aid. I get bored with cars fairly quickly, The C7 has kept me entertained for nearly 2 years that's an amazing run for me. Hopefully get another year out of it before I move on.

My wife and I inherited my father-in-laws '16 Z51 when he passed in July. When we uncovered it and checked the battery it had 2405 miles still with temp license tags and accessories in the trunk. We brought her home a few weeks ago and washed it probably for the first time, hand rubbed it with sealer glaze then wax and cleaned the interior. We've only driven it a few times since we picked it up, but we now have 2590 enjoyable miles. We are planning on taking it on a road trip from Dallas to Nashville then Bowling Green to visit the museum and factory in a couple weeks. We want to honor her dad's memory by driving and enjoying his Vette, making new memories, and visit where it was built.
I've been involved with Chevrolet's since I was in middle school restoring/hot rodding '57 Chevy's with my dad. I've driven a number of C1 and C2's, but never anything newer. When I drove the Corvette home it was an experience I will never forget. It felt like my father-in-law was riding shotgun enjoying the ride. At least I hope he was.
My wife and I had talked about adding a Corvette to our stable before all of this happened. She likes the C1 '58-'60 (red and white) and I like the C2 '63-'67 coupe. I think she will get her wish and we will get a C1 to park next to the C7.
I will take some pic's and chronicle the trip so when we get back we can share the experience with everyone. I've been reading this forum learning about the C7 and I am really impressed by the knowledge and help everyone gives. Thank You All!

I loved these cars for the past 45+ years, I'm 55.
Driving 20 minutes every Sunday as a kid to my Gramma's house - me and my older sisters would see early to mid-seventies corvettes and yell "That's My Corvette!" I remember getting really mad when I won't win. I had to be 8-9 years old. When I bought a 2017 C7 Grand Sport, with 900, miles on it, this past May I drove to my sister's house, when she opened the door I yelled - That's my Corvette! Had to hold back a tear... Hell, I'm doing it now!
At that same time, my dad had a cousin that owned a '67 Vette, black, red stinger, red interior. I don't remember if it was a stick or auto. In the late '70s or very early early '80s he had it restored. He sent the frame across country to get totally redone, everything was restored - stock. He had to sell it due to an accident on his back-hoe. Sold for $65k. BAck then that was a lot of money for a Vette. I never got to see it restored. But in my mind it was one that you see at the auctions that would sell for $200k now.

Safety Car
I was riding motorcycles for years. I was stopped at a stop light when a women drove right through me. I was lucky. I was not hurt, cool story. When the '95 Harley was fixed I sold it.
The question was what to buy next - another bike, a boat, or a fun car.
Honestly the Corvette was last on the list until I realized the bang for the buck. My first Corvette was a '96 C4 LT4 coup.
After that, a '02 C5 vert, '10 C6 GS vert, C7 Z06 vert, '04 C5 Z06, and a C6 Z06. I still own the '09 C6Z and the '17 C7Z. I track the C6Z.

There was a smoking hot chick that I worked with in high school. She was about 20 and had a rich sugar daddy that bought her a new C3. I knew I would never have her, but I knew I would have a Corvette someday.
