Alcantara steering wheel
Anyone have experience with a steering wheel finished with Alcantara? I'm wondering if the material shows any use from your hands, and does it need some sort of cleaning from time to time? I know it is extremely tough material and does not stretch at all...but perhaps there are unintended consequences.

Check YouTube. Supposed to be great for grip, especially in racing seats; but gets slick when it wears. I have it as trim on pillars and headliner: shows finger marks and looks like a thin suede or cheap velour. Some say it also flakes off from wear as well.
I guess the quality of it varies between manufacturers. YMMV.

Here's my wheel from 8k miles of driving over 3 yrs. Like brand new. Took it off and put the regular leather one back on when I trade for my 19. That car came with the Alcantara and exposed carbon fiber wheel.
they wear very well if you're not some filthy animal lol. Leather is the same. and they make so many cleaners for Alcantara. They come out like brand new if they do get matted down.

I have the micro fiber sueded carbon fiber steering wheel. The only extra thing I do vs a normal leather wheel is make sure my hands have been washed if I've been doing anything that might have got them dirty/oily etc. Otherwise I simply use a damp micro fiber cloth and gently go over the wheel every now and then if I feel like it needs a clean. As long as you aren't dirty and touching the wheel you shouldn't have that much of a problem.

I had the suede micro fiber wheel on a 2011 Carbon Edition and had 40k miles on it and it was like new yet. always kept a container of those wet wipes in the car to clean my hands after gas fills etc

great, that's what I was thinking...I drive mine all winter and it would be nice to avoid gloves at start up.

Don’t know about anyone else but in some situations my hands feel very smooth and dry and if I wasn’t paying attention I found the leather wheel slipping a bit when making routine tight low speed turns in close quarters. With the faux sued problem solved, not to mention I just like the way it feels in my hands.

Never wanted an Alcantara steering wheel or Alcantara seats, then I purchased a car that had both, they held up great and showed no wear after a few years, surprised the hell out of me. Now I have no issues with ordering it, and have it in 4 of my cars.

I love mine, it was stock in my 1LE Camaro and had to buy it for my Z51

A year, 1 month and 7600 miles on mine and both the steering wheel and seat inserts look brand new. I love the feel and comfort of the faux suede on my competition seats and the grip on the steering wheel. As others have said, clean hands help and a damp warm cloth keep the wheel just like new. I thought the price was a bit expensive when I bought my car but am well pleased.
