This has happened so many time to me I'm beginning to think of mass transportation. Why, when I park way out in left field, do some idiots feel compelled to do this?

So, let’s see, people who park near your beloved C7 - in a public parking lot BTW - are idiots and ********. Another person suggests vandalism. You guys give Corvette owners a really bad image.
If if you can’t handle someone parking near you without causing any damage perhaps you should stay home and wax your car again.

Well, it could be that they also care for their "regular" car, or that they're trying to be funny - thinking that you are crazy obsessive about your nice car. As long as they do not park obnoxiously close, it doesn't bother me.
I get a kick out people's perceptions though. I get odd comments from people at the gym on how I park my 2019 Z06 out far. It's funny to me though since I also park my daily driver 2010 Mazda 3 out away from other cars for the same reason - to avoid careless folks and to get a little more walking in.

As long as they leave adequate room between their car and yours, why worry about it. While it may be strange that they felt the need to park right next to you when there are many empty spaces, perhaps they, like you, are protective of their car and felt that no damage would happen by parking next to your car.

I think some of it is “herd mentality”. People are insecure parking out by themselves so they nudge in close to someone else. Happens to me too when I park out away from others.

So? They are nowhere near where they might contact your car. Maybe they don't want wonked either and think out in your vicinity, but not too close, is a good ploy... you thought so.

OP - you got room to open your doors? If so, what's your beef? Sounds like a child saying, "He's close to me! He's close to me!"
My buddy's pickup truck likely cost more than your Vette, if not, pretty close, I'd say - $78K....
And I park my Ferrari and the Vette at hotels, restaurants, Lowe's, Walmart, etc - they're cars....

I will say, as a car guy, I will do that in my DD sometimes, just to protect the nice car before some ******* parks there and damages their car. Not when the nice car is way out of the way, just when it’s closer to the store or wherever. I’ve had a couple people thank me. Still though, I understand your frustration.

I believe some of these drivers who go out of their way to park next to nice cars are just car lovers just like us and want to get a closer look at your C7 and have no desire to bang their door against ours or damage it in any way.

Can only imagine there are many in this thread that have never had the car keyed. There are many ill intentioned people out there in the world. What would happen if you were at work and you got an emergency phone call to rush home because of an ill or injured family member. You rush out to the parking lot only to find you are boxed in by a couple of rednecks with their pickup trucks on both sides of you. This stuff happens all the time. Doesn't sound funny to me.

Always park the Vette FAR away from other parked cars. Generally not a problem but could never understand why someone would take the spot next to me when there are tons of parking 100' away..
Still remember 1976 when I bought a Pontiac Trans Am.
Out to the shopping center....parked my car WAY out. Not a car in sight.
Did my shopping, came out and no car near mine. BUT, someone had pulled along side and slammed their door at 6 different locations on the right side. Chipped paint from the 1/4 panel to the front fender.
Justifiable Homicide would apply here IMHO.

I think it’s a little of each. Hard to tell what the other person is thinking. I can empathize with the original poster because all of my new cars that I’ve had I have parked the farthest away..to avoid door dings and such. I have even gotten into arguments with my ex because she didn’t want to walk too far or we ran late because i refused to valet or circled to find a better spot.
Well that just me...usually after 2 years or so I don’t really care about dents or scratches but that 1st 2 year stretch I’m kinda obsessing over the most minor scratches.
